Check Out Sydney Daniel’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sydney Daniel.

Hi Sydney, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My family originated and has always lived across the river in Bethalto, IL. When my dad enlisted in the military, we were moved to Kentucky and then right outside of Nashville, TN. I always knew I wanted to come back to the area, as I am very close with the family that has always resided here and I spent almost every holiday and school break in and around St. Louis.

When it came time to decide on schooling, I was accepted with great scholarships (academic and athletic) to attend Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Being just 20 minutes from the city and close enough to live with family, it was an easy choice. While in school, I was the captain of the competitive and sideline cheer team and competed at NCA nationals. In addition, I was a member of Alpha Phi sorority and the host of the SIUE TV Show – Global Village. I graduated in December 2019 with my Bachelor of Science in Mass Communications and Applied Communications, following a sports entertainment internship with the 2019 Stanley Cup Champions, the St Louis Blues. And an emcee & marketing internship with the Gateway Grizzlies baseball team.

I began work out of school during the pandemic with Anheuser Busch managing social accounts until 2022.

During that time, I was crowned the Illinois Festival Queen in 2021 and served the state by traveling to fairs & festivals, promoting community involvement and volunteerism. At the start of 2022, I was crowned the inaugural Miss Illinois Volunteer and competed at Miss Volunteer America in May 2022, taking top 3 for people’s choice.

As a titleholder, I promoted my platform, Time to Turn off (@TimeToTurnOff) a social media education tool. Time To Turn Off isn’t focused on turning off social media for good. I am focused on improving mental health, preventing overuse & mentoring how to drive undistracted. My goal Is to partner with more school systems to speak to students in assemblies, driver’s education, and development classes. In addition to mentoring social media users to utilize their platforms for positive mental health. I have a goal of partnering with the State Highway Patrol and Department of Transportation, I want to implement social media and cellular use education into driver education courses and distracted driving demonstrations & seminars.

In St Louis for the 2019 and 2022 season, I have been the on-field entertainment emcee for the Gateway Grizzlies. I enjoy being around sports and interacting with fans to create the best experience I can while the show is rolling.

On top of everything, I am currently working at STN Digital as a Jr. Account Manager full-time and part of the St Louis Blues’ Blue Crew.

I tried out for Blue Crew in July of 2022 to be part of another “cheer/dance team” – Never in my wildest dreams did I believe I’d make it on my first attempt. I now skate to “clean/clear the ice of snow” during home games, interact with fans, perform dance routines, and take part in community events.

At home, I have 2 pit-bull mix pups: Bella Blu & Bristol Bean.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all – but that’s okay because God has a plan for all of it.

My parents have been divorced for most of my life and I didn’t get to grow up with a stable household and experience the support a lot of kids receive when growing up. Sometimes I became that sole rock for my siblings and self when there wasn’t anything to hold onto. On top of that, as I moved away from home I was also involved in a few unstable and toxic relationships that didn’t build up my own hopes and dreams,

However, these experiences have built me to be strong, independent, unwavering, and confident. They have also taught me to lean into my faith when things are good and bad.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I love working in social media and marketing. Growing up, I wanted to be a meteorologist on the news every day, but with my lack of ability to stay up late or rise early the work schedule just wouldn’t have been ideal.

Social media is the future of marketing and how the workplace runs – We get to have fun and find creative and innovative ways to reach the audience and engage with those who follow the working account. It’s one of those things that because I have grown up and watched it evolve, I feel like I can really take ownership of it & make a difference in the world we live in.

I am most proud of my work that I did with Anheuser Busch. I worked with the Shock Top team in 2021 to rebrand the signature orange wedge social media presence and launch two beers within nine months. Each garnering over 2M impressions and thousands of engagements.

I think my determined work ethic sets me apart from others of my level in the industry because I am very receiving of feedback and I appreciate criticism to grow. No matter what, I want to be the best & that can be my plan A B C or Z
