Check Out Taniesha Glasper’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taniesha Glasper.

Taniesha, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always had a love for doing hair. I started braiding at 10years old by braiding the neighborhood kids’ and cousins’ hair. I later graduated high school and went to cosmetology school in 2005. Obtained my license and began working in a salon doing every range of hairstyles including short styles, quick weaves, sew-in, relaxers, etc. After quite a few bad experiences in the salon, I decided to stop doing hair for a couple of years. I felt something was missing. It wasn’t as enjoyable anymore. After a couple of years working jobs that I didn’t enjoy I was unexpectedly let go from a job in 2015. I was devastated and vowed I would never allow a job to have so much control over my livelihood. That was when I decided to start back doing hair but only doing braids. My first love my passion and how it all started. I have now been braiding out of my home in St Peters with a nice amount of regular clients but definitely looking to grow my business even more by July of this year and in the process of obtaining my braiding license with the state of Missouri.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has not always been an easy road. My parents originally didn’t support the idea of cosmetology school vs going to a university but I knew what I wanted and was determined after visiting different cosmetology schools and deciding on Grabber School of Hair design they finally came on board to helped support my dreams financially.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in all-natural hairstyles for women men and children ranging from knotless braids, box braids, crochet braid styles, loc maintenance men’s French braids. I am proud of how far I’ve come. Different skills I’ve learned over the years. Styles when I was 10 have completely changed now that I’m 36 so I’ve taken classes to stay up to date with current trends. With me you don’t just get your hair done you get an experience. Since it’s my home it’s an intimate setting without other people looking at you. You can relax enjoy variety of refreshments. Great conversation and just unwind from the stress of the world when you are in my chair.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
That I’m not always confident in what I do. My work speaks for itself and everyone love what I do however sometimes I don’t think it’s as great as everyone is saying. I’m my worse critic but I’m working on that though and have definitely gotten better with my confidence over the years.
