Community Highlights: Meet Brandon Loomis of Loomis Painting Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Loomis.

Hi Brandon, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am the owner of Loomis Painting Services. I started my company in November of 2019. You can imagine my thoughts when I found out that I decided to take the leap and strike out on my own during a global pandemic! Growing up, my father owned a painting company, so I always aspired to own something that was mine. Something that I could see the results of my hard work. I refused to be the kind of new business owner that would have to make his employees wait until a job is completed to get paid.

So I worked 40 hours a week for someone else, and on the weekends took side jobs until I had enough capital to get started. For about five months I gave up my weekends and valuable family time to build a better future for the people I love. I am self made, I didn’t get any loans, and put my focus on customer service, and treating my employees with dignity and respect. I didn’t want to put profits before people. I have worked for my fair share of horrible bosses, and vowed to never be one. I learned a lot about leadership during my time in the Air Force, and that has helped immensely. We have seen growth every year, and I have kept full time employees working year-round.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
One of the very first things that were challenging when starting my business was navigating a new world amidst lockdowns, business closures and shortages. It forced me to adapt and learn quickly. It gave me a new found respect for small business owners of our community. It reminds you that we are all in this together, and we can’t do it without each other. The biggest obstacle I have found so far is finding qualified individuals to represent LPS. You can hire someone that says they can paint, or you can focus on training and give them the skills to also succeed in life. And the best part is you’re dealing with a blank canvas. I have had the privilege to have some astounding people work for me and for that I am grateful. Another challenge is winning over customers who have had bad experiences with contractors in the past. From the moment I meet them at an estimate, I want to show them that I am different and I want to gain their trust. And I found the best way to do that is to greet them with a smiling face, explain to them procedures, have excellent communication, and advise them on the best way to handle their painting project. Even if that means I would lose money. For example. when a customer is requesting me to paint their brick house. I will inform them that it is not advised to paint brick because of the complications it will cause in the future.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
