Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Wilson.
Hi Joshua, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
This all began while we were living in the Caribbean on a 37′ sailboat. As avid scuba divers, we began noticing litter under the sea, on reefs, and especially on deserted islands where no humans visited. Wherever we traveled we would always pick up what we could and the more we traveled the more we began seeing litter everywhere.
After seeing firsthand the effects plastic pollution has had on the ocean and marine life, we began Blue2Blue Conservation to help educate people about the climate issues at hand, clean local waterways to prevent inland litter from reaching the ocean, and restore our ecosystem so that younger generations can enjoy the beauty of nature.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Blue2Blue has been an extremely satisfying endeavor because we are always meeting new, like-minded people and we are always out in nature which is great for the body and mind. However, the more we study and educate ourselves on climate issues and the excessive impact humans have had on the environment, the more we realize how much more work needs to be done to ensure a healthy planet for younger generations.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
What we are are environmentally-passionate litter pickers. We love being outdoors, whether in the woods or under the water, we have sincere love for nature. So we hate seeing trash in her, and to combat that, we host monthly community cleanups with volunteers to make an impact on the litter problem beginning here in St. Louis.
But we’re not a non-profit and don’t take donations. We sell hand-made quality soap as a means to continue our passion for cleaning and protecting our water. With every “Soap 2 Clean” sold, Blue2Blue Conservation is able to scrub 5 gallons of litter and plastics from where it doesn’t belong, which is where we love to be the most. This soap cleans the planet.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Our business wasn’t really impacted by the Covid crisis and our cleanups, being outdoors, maintaining a strong volunteer presence.
