Conversations with Ashleigh Alphin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashleigh Alphin.

Hi Ashleigh, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Ever since I was 5 years old, I’ve always had a passion for nails. Growing up, I had a toolbox filled with nail polish and begged my older sister and her friends to let me play on their nails all the time.

Once I graduated high school in 2017, I began going to Alabama A&M University.

I struggled a lot my freshman year being so far away from home and I started to realize school wasn’t something I found myself interested in at the time, so once I completed my freshman year, I moved back home and started to research schools that offered nail programs.

I started school at Divas Unlimited Academy in October 2019 and graduated in January 2020. I now work at a Luxury Nail Salon called Lavish Pedi & Spa on Hampton Ave.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Entrepreneurship isn’t easy at all! You truly have to have hard work, dedication, and faith in God. You can make $2,000 one week and $200 the next.

It’s so many ups and downs. I opened my own shop last year on August 8th at the age of 22 and lost it by November. That was one of the most devastating things that happened to me in my journey of being a nail technician.

Even though my landlords took advantage of me and it wasn’t my fault and out of my control I still beat myself up every day about it I prayed for God to give me strength and wisdom because everything happens for a reason. When one door closes another one opens.

Now I’m working in a shop I absolutely love!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a 22-year-old licensed nail professional specializing in natural nails, luxury pedicures, acrylic nails, and manicures & pedicures for men as well.

I will always respect and cater to each one of my clients by helping them find the best service that’s suitable for them, and also providing them with beautiful healthy nails, an amazing welcoming atmosphere, and overall a luxurious experience from start to finish.

I think what sets my business apart from an average nail shop because I truly care about everyone I service I follow up with them to see how their hands or feet are doing, and I’m not in a rush to get clients in and out I offer luxury services and I want them to enjoy themselves while they’re getting serviced this is their time to relax and get pampered!

I’m most known for my overlays, short full sets, and my luxury pedicures. I’m most proud of myself for not giving up when I lost the shop I kept striving and pushing forward!

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I will always tell myself hard work and dedication will always pay off.

Starting your own business isn’t easy but it can be done! There will be so many bumps in the road but brightness at the end!

You always have to keep your mustard seed of faith because God will never let you fall!
