Conversations with Ben Stokes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ben Stokes.

Hi Ben, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have always been interested in art and drawing since I was a kid. I learned to draw by copying the art of Dragonball Z trading cards that I collected, and other cartoon shows I grew up watching.

Growing up around computers, and being interested in art led me to pursue graphic design in college. After receiving my degree, I have worked for a few marketing agencies and take passion projects on the side.

I enjoy telling stories and take any opportunity I can to inject my illustrations into my design projects. I bounce around on a lot of different projects. I am drawn toward branding and character design projects and enjoy creating my own comics and animations as passion projects.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been relatively smooth. I became a single father at the age of 18, which has its difficulties, but it is also motivating to have someone that relies on you.

Another struggle has been to find work that is enough to pay the bills and is also creatively fulfilling, I am always looking for that next exciting job or project.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Currently, I do graphic design for a full-service marketing agency.

This can be anything from branding and logo projects to website design. My favorite type of design work is logo design, it has that perfect balance of technical design and creative fulfillment.

What sets me apart from others is probably my illustration style. When that is paired with marketing materials or logo design it can really help make a brand stand out from the crowd.

Any big plans?
Recently, I have been self-publishing Dungeons & Dragons adventures on my website which has been exciting.

It has that perfect marriage of graphic design, illustration, videography, and marketing so it lets me flex my design muscles and at the same time work on something that I am passionate about.
