Conversations with Charl’ess (Charley) Coldon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charl’ess (Charley) Coldon.

Hi Charl’ess (Charley), it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
It all started when I planned a birthday party for my pup, Koda! It was originally supposed to be a way for Koda to meet all of my friends and their pups. We had a fiesta at a dog park near my house, there was balloons everywhere, food from Qdoba, a pup cup bar, a dog cake & the whole shabang. We all had so much fun. Afterwards, my friends encouraged me to turn it into a business.

That’s how Coda Party Planning Co was born. We were surprisingly in full swing until a friend of mine reached out to me to help plan her wedding. She was getting married in three months & only had a venue. For the next three months, I ate & slept weddings. It gave me the opportunity to really learn the ends & outs… I fell in love with every step.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Of course not. It’s all a learning experience. Having employees, communicating with other vendors, owning a business…. it’s all extremely hard. It’s all trial & error.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Coda’s Events is a wedding and event planning service located in the heart of Saint Louis. We specialize in and are more known for our weddings but we still love our small events all the same.

I’m most proud of our overall growth. It’s been a remarkable journey. I’ve learned so much about myself, how to work with other people and that my patience level is abnormally high (haha).

In my opinion, my style is more modern western minimalist and a little different from the traditional St. Louis vibe. We also believe in collaboration. Each wedding is a team effort. From the vendors to the couple, we’re all in this together.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Manifestation. I try my best to keep a positive mindset, figuring out what I want & where I want to be. Then making a way to make it happen.
