Conversations with Danii Gold

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danii Gold.

Hi Danii, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Well, I went to school for broadcast journalism and graduated from Missouri State in 2014. It was hard finding a job in my field because it’s a competitive career. At the end of 2014, I decided to start my own Entertainment and Lifestyle blog titled Danii Gold because I had always been intrigued with the entertainment industry since I was a kid.

My stories range from album and movie reviews, interviews with artists and people in the entertainment industry, and even some business owners. In the midst of running my own blog, I was a freelance writer for two digital magazine companies based here in St. Louis.

Last year, I decided to get with the times (lol) and start my own podcast titled The Gold Spot Podcast and it’s pretty much the same as my blog except I just conduct interviews. I have the pleasure of interviewing R&B singer Donell Jones on my podcast and that was amazing!!!

Recently, I started another podcast titled Black Millennial Mamas with my best friends and cousins. That podcast consists of conversations about motherhood, trending topics that relate to being a parent, and much more.

Shortly after starting that podcast. I had a handsome, precious baby boy in April. Since then, I’ve taken a backseat with my blog and personal podcast because it’s a lot to manage both those platforms by myself versus running the group podcast with 2 other individuals, which is super helpful. That’s where I am right now!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s definitely been rough because journalism is a passion of mine but when you’re running your own platform, spending so much time on it but not monetizing it, it gets discouraging.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I run an entertainment and lifestyle blog — I also run an entertainment interview-based podcast titled The Gold Spot podcast.

I research and reach out to my guests, conduct and edit the interview and of course, promote it on social media.

I’m most proud of not giving up on my passion. It’s been a tough road, especially with being laid off from 2 jobs back-to-back. I kept working on my passion because at the end of the day, it will always be there–these jobs won’t. Your job is never guaranteed when you’re working for someone.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My advice is, always do your research, and network, network, network! What I wish I knew is–never wait on a job. They aren’t loyal nor are they guaranteed.

Lastly, always have several things lined up because things can change.
