Conversations with Lauren Wright

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Wright.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Lauren Wright. I am the founder and owner of Instaglow Spa and Permanent Makeup. I have been an Esthetician since 2012, and I have been a permanent makeup artist since 2017. I am extremely passionate about my career and finding you solutions or products that will give you the results you’re longing for. I started my career at a spa in St Louis and 5 years later decided I wanted to work for myself near my hometown and create something that we needed in town instead of traveling to the city to get it. Within a short few months I was booked out months in advance and soon realized I needed help.

In 2021 I decided to take a leap of faith and leave my studio to build a brand new location. My hopes are to offer you all of your favorite day spa treatments, including skincare, waxing, permanent makeup, lashes, injections, spray tans, and much more! All while making you feel relaxed, rejuvenated, and impressed when you leave.

We have 5 treatment rooms, which gives us 4 estheticians our last room has an injector named Lindsey Williams and who rooms her business Aesthetics in Bloom out of our spa. It just works so well, we have a dedicated staff who is here to give you exactly what you’re looking for. We’ve won best of the best awards for best day spa, best spray tan, and best eyebrow arch. We were featured on KMOV last fall and I couldn’t be more proud of what we have created!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Well, we opened during Covid which we all know was so unknown and scary, but to be honest, people want to feel good, they want to feel pretty, they want to be pampered, so even in the middle of a pandemic we were making it work!

The hardest part was the last-minute cancellations because someone was exposed or sick, but it was just something we had to understand and get through and we did! I’m very proud that we survived such an unknown and scary era. We are thriving now and I’m excited to see how much we continue to grow!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
For years I’ve always specialized in facials and in 2016 I wanted more so I took a class in Chicago to learn Microblading and that was a whirlwind. I remember finishing the class and thinking, how will I ever become good enough to work on an actual person?! With lots of practice, some tears, and just studying techniques and I finally learned 3 months later. A year later, I traveled to California to take a class in a technique called “combo brow” it’s basically a mixture of hair strokes and shading.

It looks super natural or you can make it look bolder for someone who wants a makeup look. Clients were going wild for it, I started gaining a lot of interest and booking 10-30 people a week! A year after that I traveled to Florida to take an eyeliner enhancement class with a very well-known artist and eventually it was pretty much just brows and liner after that! Currently, I’m hoping to bring in a few more options for permanent makeup this winter. A lot of artists in the area take classes around town or online, I like to travel outside my radar to learn something different than everyone else. I just want my work to set me apart from someone else and that will give diversity and let people have a better option for a service that is their style or look!

I’m most proud of how much I’ve built my business up, I literally was working on friends in my spare bedroom 8 years ago and now I’m the proud owner of a brand new beautiful spa. Some days it feels like a dream! I couldn’t do it without my staff who provide excellent service to our clients, my parents, husband, family, and all the wonderful community support of referrals and love.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up I had a few different trends, I’d say under 10 I was your normal kid who played with Barbies and loved spending time with my grandma. At age 13, I started becoming more girly and loving makeup and nail polish and clothes, and that just progressed into my teen years.

I always had a dream to become a nurse so I moved to California at 18 for a few years and really grew as a person, I decided to move home because I missed My family and I took a job at Fast Eddie’s as a cocktail waitress until I went Back to school for esthetics and here we are!
