Conversations with Mallorie Miller

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mallorie Miller.

Hi Mallorie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always loved to create. From a young age I have loved to craft and I feel like my photography is an extension of that. It officially started in March of 2020 when everything was starting to shut down because of COVID. I was 7 months pregnant and heartbroken that newborn pictures (along with a slew of other things) wouldn’t be happening. I had always dreamed of an in home newborn session and now that was cancelled.

After Hudson was born, I started thinking about the camera I had in my closet. I enrolled in a class, learned a lot, and I quickly became obsessed with all things photography. Shortly after we lost someone very close to us, it showed me how important pictures really are. This gave me the push to start taking pictures of people other than my family.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There have definitely been some challenges. Trying to juggle working full-time, having a toddler, and owning my own business has been tough. I’m constantly trying to learn new systems to make it easier. I also underestimated the amount of “behind the scenes” tasks that it entails.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a portrait photographer who currently loves a little bit of everything. I have shot families, newborns, and weddings before but I am really starting to be drawn to weddings. I love celebrating with my couples and their families and being able to capture their perfect day as it unfolds. I think that is the best part of this whole thing- helping people celebrate and capture those happy milestones.

When you book a session with me it is always personalized to you and your family. For example, when you book a wedding with me, we have a coffee or wine date and tailor a custom timeline to your needs. If you decide that we’re a good fit, we’ll capture your engagement session and then I will be in touch throughout the wedding planning process.

As far as my work, I consider it bright and vibrant. I love images that capture you and your fiancé or family exactly as you are. My goal is for everyone to leave their session feeling relaxed, confident, and making sure that they have a blast!

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love the diversity of our city. I love that within 20 minutes we can have a session downtown and be surrounded by beautiful buildings and then head into the county and find gorgeous parks with beautiful old trees. I also love all of the small businesses and unique stores. I feel like I am constantly adding things to my “must see” list! I wish that people not from here realized how amazing St. Louis really is and what an awesome place it is to visit.

When out of town guests visit, they are always shocked by how much there is to do.
