Today we’d like to introduce you to Myiesha Henderson.
Hi Myiesha, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve been in love with fashion since before I can remember, so I knew at a very young age that I wanted to go that route. While working at Gap, around 2013/14, I decided I wanted to start making my own clothes & potentially sell them.
I had an old sewing machine at my mom’s house that she got me for Christmas years before, so I went on YouTube and watched DIY sewing videos. I had taken a beginners sewing class in high school, so I was somewhat familiar but still had to relearn a lot since it had been more than 6 years since I’d last sewn anything.
I made a skirt, posted it on Facebook, and received incredible feedback, which was even more motivation to learn more & keep going. I became somewhat obsessed with learning new techniques and increasing my skills and eventually got comfortable enough to sell my designs.
My job at the time closed, and I decided to take a shot at full-time entrepreneurship. Haven’t looked back since (lol).
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There have been many different seasons along this journey, and all have contributed greatly, so I wouldn’t change anything. Not always smooth, but it gets smoother with more experience.
I’m beginning to have more fun with it now.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a fashion designer from St. Louis, MO who specializes in womenswear, but designs for men & children as well.
My line is a unique “all occasion” brand, ranging from streetwear to couture, and has something for literally everyone! Regardless of age, size, shape, etc, I can create the perfect look.
I’m very passionate about not only fashion but uplifting & inspiring others to feel good because I believe that confidence is everything. “You look good, you feel good.”
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
I highly recommend bold, courageous faith. I believe trusting God is the key to everything.
