Conversations with Nancy Gomer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nancy Gomer. Them and their team share their story with us below:

After 24 years of serving the St. Charles County community and beyond, the St. Charles County Parks and Recreation Department continues to grow. Created in 1997, our mission is to preserve both natural and historic features throughout the county. Today, the County’s 17 parks continue to attract locals and tourists alike. Some of our most sought-after amenities include the nation’s largest asphalt pump track and state’s largest outdoor skate course; over 62 miles of natural, paved, and multi-use trails; paddle share rental stations; white silica sand beaches in Historic Missouri Wine Country; 19th century homesteads listed on the National Register of Historic Places; a heritage museum; primitive camping cabins and campsite facilities; four disc golf courses; and many multi-use pavilions.

As a comparatively young Missouri parks system, the St. Charles County Parks and Recreation Department already has received many national honors, including UDisc’s Best Missouri Disc Golf Course 2021, Central States’ 2021 Award of Merit from American Society of Landscape Architects for the unique design and implementation of Veterans Tribute Park, and St. Louis Magazine’s St. Louis A-List 2021 Best New Attractions in Nature Play.

Kinetic Park will host the region’s first-ever 2021 Red Bull UCI Pump Track World Championships Qualifier July 31; spectators of all ages can join the fun from noon-10 p.m.!

Whether you’re a history buff, enjoy camping, hiking, biking or fishing, or looking for a place to hold that special wedding, there’s something for everyone in St. Charles County Parks.

Watch for new park developments coming soon to Kinetic Park, Riverside Landing, The Park at New Melle Lakes, College Meadows Park, Broemmelsiek Park, and Indian Camp Creek Park. Follow them on Facebook @StCharlesCountyParks for details about activities special events, volunteer opportunities, and more! Visit for information about each park, including amenities and trails.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Was it easy? No, building a legacy for future generations takes time, money, and a lot of talent. Our great leaders, administrators, and Parks staff have taken great pride in building a unique parks system unlike any other. We take pride in our work and are honored to share St. Charles County Parks with the local community as well as tourists looking to experience something exciting and new.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
With more than 15 years of television and radio news media experience, combined with 12 years of communications, public relations, marketing knowledge (10 of those years serving the St. Charles County community), I have the experience and drive to succeed in a fast-paced and challenging environment. On the front lines of communications, serving as the Parks Department spokesperson and head of marketing, I’ve attained proven media success by marketing stories to reporters and editors and receiving television, radio, and print media coverage. I take pride in serving the community and keeping the public connected. When I’m not spending time with my family, I enjoy giving back to the community by volunteering. I currently serve as the Festival and 150th Anniversary Publicity Coordinator, Wedding Coordinator, and Eucharistic Minister for Assumption Church in O’Fallon; and Secretary of the Deer Creek Estates Homeowners Association.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I’ve certainly pushed the envelope and have taken many risks throughout my career. Sometimes even thinking out of the box can be considered a risk, but it’s a risk worth taking. As a professional, I challenge everyone to push the envelope and think out of the box. My philosophy is that you can’t grow as a person if you don’t take risks in life.
