Conversations with Skylynn Valle

Today we’d like to introduce you to Skylynn Valle.

Hi Skylynn, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Skylynn Valle; I am an Entrepreneur and an Artist in painting, photography, and music. I am a licensed Insurance Agent and also an Ordained Minister. My story is filled with trials, triumphs, loss, grief, blessings, love, and faith.

Growing up, I’ve always been a plus-size girl with s stylish flare and lots of creativity. However, shopping was never easy. Trying on clothes was the worst, with sizes never being right in the styles I liked. I would have to wear clothes from many departments (even men’s as a young girl), and my mom and I would make the clothes fit to flow with the trend. As a child, having to go through loops just to put clothes on my body greatly affected how I saw myself. Through the years, it damaged my self-esteem. I didn’t feel like I fit in or had access to what I liked or felt beautiful in; moving through high school, my low self-esteem and depression even prevented me from experiencing some friendships and relationships.

Even though I felt that way, I still carried on with strength and fought to overcome my shyness and struggles. I began to push harder to come out of my shell and be myself. During that time, I finally gained more confidence in pursuing style, fashion, makeup, and how to create it. When tragedy struck, I was discovering how to make a true change within myself. The loss of my 20-year-old brother was even more of a setback than I could handle. It wasn’t long after I found myself spiraling into a deeper depression, leading to a near-suicide attempt. I allowed myself one last prayer, and God showed me a renewed hope and faith that still carries me today.

Learning the journey through grief, I started to see God opening new doors for me. This led me to pursue my calling in ministry, where I enrolled in a college program at Lead Texas. During this program, I was a part of multiple outreach opportunities to rebuild churches, lead worship services, youth minister, teach young children, and support the elderly. I have also done back-to-school programs, fed/ministered to the homeless, and traveled the states and internationally. During my time of travel, I gained a special empathy for others and their needs and also learned many people were going through similar challenges. It then began my goal to make a change. In the process, Covid-19 hit and shut down the program. I was sent back home to Illinois, where I wasn’t sure what to do with myself. I began using my creativity as an outlet to cope with uncertainty. I discovered some new passions in art and music and started exploring the merge of art and style. I’ve learned how to repurpose and handcraft clothing and various trends. I would love to share my art and passions with people of all sizes, styles, and places in life!

Where I’m at now? I just bought a school bus! My goal has been to renovate it, travel, minister, and share a new Hope with inclusivity.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?

What do you think about happiness?
The little things. Dogs, pizza, laughter, colors, smells, blankets, coffee mugs, organization, creating something new, sunsets, hugs, emojis, dessert first, all things funky and fresh, music, helping others succeed, and smiles. Why wouldn’t those things make you happy is the real question! 🙂

  • My goal is to make our items affordable
  • without excessive up charges for people with greater sizes
  • Designer looks and quality art for diverse shoppers
