Today we’d like to introduce you to Terrance & Melandie Summers.

Hi Terrance & Melandie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Ann’s Roots microgreens farm is a small family business run by husband and wife team Terrance and Melandie. We started Ann’s Roots microgreens farm out of love for our family and tradition. Coming from a long line of growers, green thumbs, and cooks, we found a need to revamp family dinners and cookouts. This new lifestyle change prompted the innovator of the family (Terrance) to work towards finding new ways to grow food indoors. We started this journey by feeding our family from an aquaponic system that grew varieties of lettuces and herbs. After successfully growing food for our family we wanted to learn more about growing other produce indoors. We spent a year learning and researching microgreens. After many trials and errors, we felt it was necessary to share our newfound love of microgreens with our family and the community. We wanted to show others that you can change how you eat and enjoy food fun and healthy way! Most people ask us why we named the company Ann’s Roots. Ann was the pillar of the family, and we lost her in 2020 to a very aggressive battle with cancer. Out of this devastation, we wanted to do something in her memory that represented to person she was. She taught us the meaning of serving the community and loving your family!

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Anything worth having is worth fighting for! The road of building Ann’s Roots has been a journey worth every bump in the road. We knew when we started that we would face many obstacles, and we take them head-on. We have worked very hard in this process of building this business while working full time, parenting, and having time for the family. The sacrifice is worth the result, so no matter how tired we are, we continue to work towards our goal of being successful entrepreneurs!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Ann’s Roots is a small family-owned indoor microgreens farm. We specialize in growing a variety of microgreens that can use to compliment any dish, from omelets to stir fry! We started this company to change our lifestyle and eating habits and add something new to our family cookouts and dinners. We have found great joy in creating new recipe ideas with our microgreens and started a mission to introduce a new way of eating to our community.

Any big plans?
We look forward to becoming a household name and a bigger part of our health food community in Saint Louis! We want to offer families a new outlook on eating healthily and having fun with their families, creating new and exciting dishes for everyone to enjoy!
