Daily Inspiration: Meet Ariel Concert Series Artistic Director, Tzuying Huang

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ariel Concert Series Artistic Director, Tzuying Huang.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Ariel Concert Series (ACS) was started at July 22, 2020 for the first outdoor concert during the pandemic. It was fully supported by my own company Ariel Premium Supply, Inc. as a not-for-profit community program to encourage people listening to quality classical music to keep spiritual health during the stressful of the pandemic. ACS went on “Online Streaming Concerts” since Nov. 2020 after doing successful 14 outdoor concerts. We will be doing outdoor concerts this month, July and August. We hope to bring quality classical music into St. Louis community for everyone’s everyday life.

Ariel Premium Supply, Inc. is a supplier company in Promotional Products Industry. Established in 1993, Ariel ranks No. 16 supplier in North America Promotional Industry as of 2020.

Founder, Dr. Tai Lin, who is also the CEO of the Ariel Premium Supply, Inc.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
For the most part, yes, it has been a smooth road and a great learning experience so far. As musicians, it is always an eye-opening experience to see the logistical side of curating a performance and running a concert series and how much (more) communication and effort it takes! We definitely faced some mini-challenges that we never would have thought of if we were just performing ourselves, we were able to quickly come up with solutions and turn it around for success; if anything, having active performance musicians on the administration helps in bringing a lot of creative ideas for the concert series!

– Artistic Coordinator, Hannah Ji

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a violinist in the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and Artistic Coordinator of Ariel Concert Series. I play in the first violin section of SLSO, and my role is to support and contribute to my violin section much in the same way an athlete contributes to his sports team. This requires a lot of individual practicing at home, as well as rehearsal with the symphony. The level of musicianship and artistry that each individual musician contributes to the orchestra creates a positive and inspiring workplace. I’m so proud to be part of such an incredible orchestra.

As the Artistic Coordinator of Ariel Concert Series, I’m part of the operations of running a chamber music organization. I write program notes, put together newsletters, and help decide programming. Last but not least, I also play violin for concerts throughout our series!

Ariel Concert Series is a very special organization because we’re able to offer our concerts free to the public. We’re striving to reach audiences that might not usually find themselves at a classical music concert because we strongly believe that music is for everyone!

Artistic Coordinator, Ann Fink

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Ariel Concert Series has been very well received in St. Louis community. We believe the following factors are important: High-Quality Music & Performances. Just like good cuisines are ALWAYS attractive to people, quality music penetrates people’s ears and minds directly to lift up the souls.

Accessible. We did the outdoor concert with quality sound system setup so that people can enjoy it with comfortable “social distance” yet loud enough music that is similar to listening it in the concert hall.

Devoted musicians to performances and community support. Most of ACS’s musicians are members of Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra. They are among the best orchestra musicians in US. And, ACS was able to have the support from Immanuel Lutheran Church Olivette to provide wonderful recording environment for the online streaming concerts.

  • We believe quality music belong to everyone, the concerts are free.
