Daily Inspiration: Meet Becky Brittain PhD

Today we’d like to introduce you to Becky Brittain, PhD.

Hi Becky, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My Mothering Coach business was started in Santa Barbara, CA in 2004. I was receiving my doctorate in the new field of prenatal and perinatal psychology. I am one of eight experts with this degree in the world. In the past seventeen years, I have shared my knowledge and practical wisdom with many mother’s, father’s and families, devoted to the needs of babies, children, teens and their parents. I especially love working with women at any stage of the mothering journey. Motherhood is the most essential relationship and unfortunately there is no education for any parenting role. Every baby and child deserves the best start in life with secure attachment, which is promoted by conscious parenting which I teach.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have enjoyed my own journey and been successful in this career. Every client brings different issues from fears of pregnancy, postpartum depression, sleeping difficulties and stress. They may experience conflicts with their partner and with grandparent and in-law relationships. Their children may experience birth trauma, developmental lags or adoption issues. Mothers may not have received adequate mothering themselves, and they need tools and resources for doing a good job.

I moved my practice back to California but worked remotely with St. Louis clients and others around the country and world.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I have had a lot of professional training which sets me apart from many other parent coaches. I understand and teach the art and science of parenting. have two grown children and am a grandparent of eight ( ages 18 mo through 12 years of age) I have a lot of experience with babies and kids whom I adore.

I have been a professional dance-movement therapist for over 40 years with a master’s in that field from UCLA and worked with all population groups in so many settings, hospital, schools and treatment centers. I was instrumental in starting the dance therapy program for pediatric cancer patients at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon. I was an adjunct lecturer at Washington University for 27 yrs, teaching dance therapy and somatic approaches. I have worked as well as an expressive art therapist while becoming a psychologist.

I am very interested in early embodiment from conception on with the creation of healthy first patterning of body, mind and spirit. With knowledge and support, parents have the ability to create a baby with a healthy brain and nervous system that supports a lifetime of learning. Children need to be securely bonded and attached to their parent(s).

I am presently writing a book, The Dance of Parent and Baby: Discover Nature’s Plan for Health, Love and Belonging.

How do you define success?
Success is personal happiness with yourself that spills over to dedicated service to others and to all life. I am currently successful wearing many hats as a mother, wife, grandparent, dance-movement therapist, energy master, teacher and college teacher, mentor and therapist’s therapist.
