Today we’d like to introduce you to Candice Pinkins.
Hi Candice, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Being a mental health specialist, I wanted to do something that allowed me to escape from the everyday stressors of life. In 2017 I decided to start researching candle making and I fell in love with the process. It allowed me to explore a level of creativity that I did not know I had. In the past purchasing candles, I would get headaches and need to blow the candles out because they were so strong. Which encouraged me to explore a coconut blended wax with fragrance oils that are free from reproductive toxins and other potentially hazardous chemicals. The wooden wick is a customer fav! It sounds like a crackling fireplace and sets the mood in any space.
The name Six. Twenty-Four came from my birthday. When discovering my brand image, I wanted to encourage people to live… With suicide being the second cause of death for young people I wanted to use my platform to connect with people and remind them of their gifts and help them discover reasons to live and prosper. My family is my reason. The friends are my reason. My gift to encourage young people to live at their highest potential is my reason.
My next goal for the business is to open a candle-making bar/event space.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road ALOT of trial and error. Learning the business side of business. Trying new waxes and new fragrances and ordering a million different vessels. Going from cotton wicks to wood wicks and just a ton of testing making sure the candles would be safe for my customers. To be honest all of my original ideas were ugly lol. One night I prayed and asked God for help and he led me to the illustrations that I have now and they are perfect! I have grown to know that God has given me everything that I need to be successful in the gifts he has given me.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have created a brand that is unique but also leaves space for growth. It’s not just a candle business it’s an opportunity for me to connect with people provide a product that brings joy. I encourage people to celebrate the small wins. And if the self-care journey starts with something as simple as lighting a candle, we celebrate that as well. my product is different because I focus on creating an organic and safe product for my customers. I am a firm believer in representation. I choose my illustrations because it was something I don’t see often on a candle. It adds to the home aesthetic and is a constant reminder of the beauty we possess.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice is to do exactly what you love and be consistent. People can feel when you are passionate about your work with shows in your customer service. It is very important if you are running a business to have a good idea of how to run the back end of your business and treat it as a business, not just a hobby.
