Daily Inspiration: Meet Iyshia Sims

Today we’d like to introduce you to Iyshia Sims.

Hi Iyshia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
‘Amir’acle products began being created in 2016 when I was pregnant with my son Amir. I was at one of those pyramid parties. You know the ones. This one was for clean everyday products, and the party’s host asked for two volunteers to place a clove of garlic between their toes. Now I didn’t volunteer, but the two girls said they could taste the garlic in their mouths after minutes! The host explained that that’s how fast products you put on your skin gets into your skin. After that, my friend asked me if I planned to breastfeed Amir once he was born. I told her that was the plan, and she asked me if I was still using toxic aluminum-filled deodorants. I replied, “I am!” She explained that my breasts are the closest things to my armpits and that whatever I was rubbing on them would get into my body, be absorbed into my milk, and excreted into my son! Mind-blowing right? So an all-natural deodorant was the first product I attempted. As my tummy grew bigger, it got itchy, and stretch marks came, so I began formulating body butter to help bring me some relief. After Amir was born, we found out he had eczema, so again, I went back to formulating and creating the hydrating cream to give his little arms some relief. In 2018, my husband surprised me and made ‘Amir’acle Body Butters an LLC, and from there, many more products were born! Before I began formulating and experimenting with my recipes, I went through countless products only to find that they had hidden ingredients, harmful ingredients, and products that just didn’t work. As I began creating my products, my motto became clear: Creating ‘Amir’acle Experiences without the guilt! This means that you will know what’s in the products I create and not have to feel bad about what you are putting on and in your body.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
‘Amir’acle Body Butters & more has been a fairly smooth road. But we know that with all small businesses, there will be hiccups along the way. A few struggles I have run into have been funding my small business. Despite filling out numerous grants, I started funding my business from my expenses, and it took about 2-3 years to begin to see a profit. I was also unaware of everything I needed to make my business a legitimate business, like an LLC, DUNS #, a separate business account from my account, and insurance for my business. Now that I have these things, I carry a different pride in knowing it’s secure, and I’m doing this accurately.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My work is creating all things natural. The motto of my business is: Creating ‘Amir’acle Experiences without the guilt! That means when people use my products; they know what’s in them. The ingredients are ones you know and can trust. People know me as the body butter girl. No, seriously, I specialize in making body butter with the highest quality Shea butter, and that’s what folks love-the quality of my products! I do intense research on where I obtain my ingredients, ensuring I support fair trade suppliers and grade A companies and get pure and unrefined ingredients when possible.

I also specialize in making other all-natural products like lip balms, face moisturizers, and hydrating creams- to help those that suffer from dry, itchy skin patches, face masks, sugar scrubs, and more! One of the recent accomplishments I am most proud of is being asked to customize my body butter, sugar scrubs, and lip balms for a Pride wedding. It was an honor for me to be considered for such a special occasion when they could have gone with any other person, and it was a privilege to be able to show my love and support to a community I advocate for and support.

What sets me apart from others, outside of the countless hours of research, testing, and formulating quality products, is my love and willingness to accept feedback. No matter how good I believe my products are, I always elicit feedback-both affirming and adjusting to help my business grow. Some of my products have been through 4 different. Formulations and others 10, but feedback helps me produce quality products that people love and trust, and they feel a sense of ownership, to-especially when they know a change has been implemented due to feedback they gave.

Alright, before we go, can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Every year for Mother’s day and Father’s day, I create a box with self-care products. I include some of my best sellers in the box and feature other small businesses that make products I don’t create, but I know others would love. In the past, I have featured small businesses that create the following; Mother’s Day and Father’s Day cards, men and women perfume, wax melts, custom graphic creations, shower steamers, and bath bombs. I am always looking for new small businesses to feature in my boxes, and it’s a great way to collaborate and support one another.

  • Overall, something to know about all of my product prices are they are listed to reflect the time, research and quality ingredients included in each jar of ‘Amir’acle Goodness!
