Daily Inspiration: Meet Kara Baldus-Mehrmann

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kara Baldus-Mehrmann.

Hi Kara, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
Music has been all I’ve known since I was 5. I started playing professionally when I was 16 in various bands around the St. Louis area. After 18 years of being in a supporting role in all these groups, I decided to take the leap and become a bandleader of my own group.

The LustreLights began in 2017 and we have grown beyond all of my expectations. We perform approximately 50 events per year from weddings to corporate events to galas.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The majority of running this business has been smooth thanks to the amazing personnel that agreed to join this band family! I am fortunate enough to get to perform music at a high level with the areas’ most talented musicians every weekend. I tend to struggle with maintaining efficient time management.

My average week involves teaching 25 hours of piano students at Wash U and running our small business.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
The LustreLights is a party/event band that caters to weddings and corporate events. We can customize the group anywhere from a duo all the way up to a 10 piece band, depending on the needs of our clients. We are known for putting on super high-energy shows that span across all genres of music.

I’m most proud of the excellent reviews and feedback that we get from our clients, and the joy it brings to them and their families.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
We are in an industry that was essentially shut down for an entire year and now it feels like everyone is playing catch up for the next 2 or 3 years. 2021 was our busiest year yet and I don’t foresee it slowing down anytime soon now that people are planning weddings and bigger events again.
