Today we’d like to introduce you to Katherine Francis.
Katherine, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Most people call me Kat! My love for fashion and music began when I was a child. I would design outfits for my Barbie dolls while teaching myself how to sew and sketch. I loved watching shows like America’s Next Top Model, Project Runway, That’s So Raven, and Kimora Lee Simmons: Life in the Fab Lane every day for fashion inspiration. I would always accessorize my uniform every day before I went to school. I wanted to have a unique style! I began to have an interest in music when I took guitar lessons as a child. Then, I taught myself how to play the piano. I discovered so many different genres of music in the process. I became inspired by artists such as Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Aaliyah, Pharrell, and Beyoncé. I admired how certain artists like Pharrell and Rihanna could combine their love for fashion and music together. I knew I wanted to do just exactly that!
After graduating high school, I wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted to do for my career. So, I decided to complete an online program from Parsons School of Design and Teen Vogue to learn more about the fashion industry. I also took a photography class. During this, I discovered another passion of mine which is blogging.
Therefore, my blog, Kadiskreations, was created. Kadiskreations is a name that my mother came up with after I was born. It combined her name, Diane, and my name, Katherine, which is also my grandmother’s name. It was perfect! On this blog, I write posts on everything related to fashion, music, and culture. It is a great way to share my knowledge of these subjects all in one place while inspiring others!
As of today, I am currently in college pursuing my bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. I have maintained a 4.0 GPA and perfect attendance. I also received an award for the President’s List for my school!
I am working hard so that I will be a successful entrepreneur one day. I hope to turn my blog into a well-known company. It is my goal for Kadiskreations to become a household name!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it has not always been a smooth road. Some of the struggles I have had are my motivation and anxiety. It can be difficult when you are working hard, and you barely receive any recognition for it. You can lose your motivation to keep trying sometimes. I could work on a blog post for weeks and barely receive any views on it. Or, I can be so busy with school, I don’t have time to do other things. I have also really struggled with improving my following. It can always seem like the content you make is never good enough. I am working on this by learning from my mistakes so I can be successful as a blogger!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Along with being a college student and blogger, I am a freelance social media manager. I discovered my interest in this career while learning about blogging. I currently run two accounts including, an Instagram account for my dog, Coffee! I love to create interesting content for others to see. I am proud of all the positive recognition it has gotten! I feel what sets me about from others is my creativity. I will always find a way to be unique. Also, I always want to learn as much as I can!
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
The advice I have for those just starting is to keep going when you feel that you are not succeeding. Make sure that you are always writing down your goals. You can write it down on paper or even on your phone’s notes app! Always make your goals realistic. I feel by doing this, you are more likely to achieve them. I often write down positive affirmations too. When doing this, I write down my goal in the present tense. For example, writing “I will achieve this goal” or “I have achieved this goal” will make you believe you have already achieved it. You can personalize this affirmation however you want to!
Also, always stay consistent! I wish I knew this when starting out. There have been times where I didn’t post on my blog for months when I ran out of ideas or lost my motivation. I feel this hindered my success. Now, I work on my blog almost every single day. I plan out my ideas in advance so, I will always have a post to look forward to writing!
