Daily Inspiration: Meet Kimmi-K Smith

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimmi-K Smith.

Hi Kimmi, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I started doing Plus Size Modeling in 2007, I was born and raised in St. Louis, MO, but relocated to Nashville, TN in 1999. I was really insecure about my weight back then and had little confidence.

I started looking online and found Mia Amber Davis-she passed away in 2011, I believe. I started researching her and started to love myself because she was just like me. I hired a Model Coach and started practicing for the runway.

My coach also showed me how to go to castings, how to pose, and to learn my angles as a plus-size woman. From there, I took off! I have walked for companies such as Lane Bryant, Ashley Stewarts, DEB Fashions (Prom Line), DMichelle Designs, and God’s Princess to name a few. I also walked in Nashville Fashion Week, and also Murfreesboro Fashion week.

I also have done promotional modeling as a Brand Ambassador. I’ve worked for Serta Mattress, Mike’s Hard Lemonade, Bevaimo Wines, and Ciroc. I am currently working my way back into the modeling industry as I took time off to be a mom. I currently am working on assisting up-and-coming models in runway, casting calls, and poses.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it has not! Of course, there are always bumps and hurdles you face. Some of my struggles have been going to casting calls the designer has a size 16, but I’m an 18. Or I submit photos to a model agency and they say I’m too sexy.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Well, I’m here to motivate and encourage the plus-size community. We are a family and I want to be that person who helps them conquer a photoshoot, or just assists them with their walk. I am known for my runway walk, and in photos, I have the “pouty lips” LOL!

I am most proud of my daughter, I love her so much. She is just like me. She thinks I am so famous and googles me every day just to see my work online. It’s so cute!

What sets me apart is my realness, I am a genuine person, I am motivated, a self-starter, I am warm-hearted, I am loving, I always show love, I am full of energy, and always try to keep a smile on my face no matter the situation! Just a good person all around!!

I currently work for an insurance company, but working behind the scenes to start my own cosmetic line and a t-shirt line.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
God deserves all the credit!
