Daily Inspiration: Meet Lucas Jack

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lucas Jack.

Hi Lucas, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I describe myself as a “recovering attorney,” in reference to the 5 years I spent as a lawyer inside the Chicago corporate machine before heeding my true calling as a songwriter and performer. In 2012, I released The Chicago EP, followed by Before I Forget (2015), and Make it Beautiful (2016).

In 2022, I will release a new album, Forever and Nowhere, marking a departure from strictly acoustic piano-driven songs to an exploration of other vintage electro-mechanical pianos and synthesizers. The sound is shaped largely by the talents and tastes of my bandmates, Michael Gomez (drums) and Justin Schneider (bass), whom I met while living and performing in San Antonio, Texas.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
There are very few “smooth roads” on the journey of a touring musician, but the Covid pandemic was a particularly rough patch for our band. We played exactly zero in-person concerts in 2020 and 2021. Midway through 2021, we began playing weekly livestream concerts, which have served as an interesting stepping stone towards the ultimate goal of playing in-person shows again.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Our band specializes in providing a full-band sound and experience with just 3 members. In addition to playing their respective primary instruments, the bassist and drummer each sing harmonies and play synthesizers. Our in-person concerts include a complex light show and our livestreams boast multiple moving cameras to enhance the listeners’ virtual experience.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Focus all your effort on making music that is stylistically authentic and interesting to you. Trying to chase or copy a particular sound always leads to a dead end.
