Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Sheffield.
Hi Rachel, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’m Rachel, a passionate graphic designer based in Katy, Texas. My journey into the world of art and design began with a curious spark in Eutaw, Alabama. It all started when I discovered my talent for illustrating beloved cartoon characters, igniting a passion I couldn’t keep to myself. My career goal was to become a skilled graphic designer. I chose this career path because I realized I had a natural talent for art and illustration. I wanted to channel that talent into a profession that would allow me to create visually appealing designs and make a positive impact through creativity.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey hasn’t been without its challenges. Navigating the business landscape brought obstacles, particularly in mastering the entrepreneurial aspects. Acknowledging the need for guidance, I recently became a member of the Fulshear-Katy Chamber of Commerce and sought mentorship to address the areas I’ve found challenging. As a self-taught business entrepreneur, every hurdle is an opportunity to learn, adapt, and grow.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might need to become more familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I am the proud owner of Rachel Designs, a local minority woman-owned graphic design business specializing in crafting custom logos and branding solutions for small businesses. With a focus on brand and marketing, my business, now in its fourth year, has successfully transformed diverse visions into tangible realities. Since its establishment in May 2020, Rachel Designs has built a strong portfolio, offering services ranging from logo development to website design. Our pride lies in the creative endurance of this entrepreneurial journey and in staying true to our core principles. What sets us apart is our unwavering dedication to creativity, happiness, and compassion, continuously evolving on this incredible journey.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The pivotal lesson I’ve learned on my journey is the shift in mindset from focusing solely on likes and views to consistently showcasing my graphic design work and content on social media daily. Understanding that people are observing and engaging regardless of metrics has been a transformative realization.
