Today we’d like to introduce you to Skylar Picker.
Hi Skylar, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my modeling career in early 2017 after graduating high school. I always loved having my photo taken growing up, but was very insecure about my smile because my front teeth were crooked until I got braces my junior year of high school. In December of 2016, a very close friend of mine, Brendan Krupp suddenly passed away at the age of 18. Earlier that year he had started modeling and booking gigs left and right, he was thriving.
After he passed, I reached out to his parents about how I can get started into modeling and what I needed to do. I ended up signing with Images Agency and took both modeling & acting classes, which helped my baseline to the jump start of my modeling career!
I immediately started reaching out to other models and photographers in the Saint Louis area interested in working/collaborating together. I have been working with local brands and companies for about five years now, and I love every minute of it. I have met so many amazing people in this industry and it has most certainly changed my life for the better!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road in my modeling career, in fact there have been countless times of rejection and overall discouragement during my photoshoots. I love fashion, and fashion modeling tends to focus more on taller individuals. I am only 5’3, so any time I tried working with big name fashion brands or even other agencies, I would be immediately rejected because of my height and it’s always weighed heavy on my mind. With that said, I decided that I wanted to continue modeling simply because of the confidence it gave me, and the growth I was seeing every photoshoot!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I love modeling because of the way it makes me feel! I love spreading positivity to those around me, and I feel that it’s important to do so because life is short, and you NEVER know what someone else is going through.. I always make it a point to count my blessings daily, because everything can change in the blink of an eye. I am most proud of the growth within myself over the last five years. I started when I was 18, and I’m going to be 24 this year, and believe me when I say A LOT has happened between then, but I have accomplished more than I could’ve ever imagined, and the best part? I enjoy every single moment of it, good and bad! Everything happens for a reason!
