Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Whelehon.
Hi Tiffany, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I apologize in advance as I’m not the best at talking about myself. I get told this time and time again by members of my coworking space saying that “I neglect to tell people during their tour of the office about how I work hard to help support their business”. However, my story of how I got started as the manager of STLFusion is not your typical run of the mill start. STLFusion is now a building operated (555 Washington Ave. St. Louis, MO 63101) coworking office but that wasn’t always the story. It was run by a national tenant until 2018 that had to unfortunately leave the St. Louis market so GMB jumped in and took the space over. I was working as a preschool teacher and my father (the property manager for the building) asked me to step in and run this new office. I had little to no experience with coworking offices before and had to hit the ground running but I’m very happy that I did. The first couple weeks were a whirlwind of familiarizing myself with all paperwork – protocols – vendors – and switching support companies to support the local St. Louis market. It took a little bit to iron out but eventually, I got it all figured out and now run a well-oiled machine. To top it off, I get to work for a small company that truly cares about my wellbeing and get to work with my dad everyday.
We pride ourselves on being a small, locally run office that can really concentrate on the needs of each tenant. Frequently I hear that we are a hidden gem. Our office offers a long list of amenities that most other places don’t have such as happy hours that I cook food for right in the office. People love it, fill their bellies, collaborate with other members of different companies and it’s another thing off of our tenant’s list to worry about. The office is beautifully designed and impresses people/clients when they come to visit and really offers a great large office feel with a small office price. And again, it’s just me running it all so when tenants get into a situation that they need help with, I’m available. Sometimes that means I’m running an errand for them, designing billing envelopes to look more professional, introducing them to experts in the area to help or even making them stop and take a break when they’re overwhelmed. We have local coffee, local beer, community fridge and monthly massages at no additional price as well and some people are thrown off at first that we don’t nickel and dime people for the “extras” once they’re here. People are our main concern and I think providing them with the best service I can helps aid their business which in turn supports St. Louis.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Transitioning to a new career path was a learning experience in its own but also beginning a new career for a new venture for our company came with many hiccups. Although the company has years of experience with commercial real estate, learning this newer coworking/flexible office market was a completely new experience for us all. Feelings associated with running a business vary from day to day and I’m sure almost everyone else experiences it. Somedays, I feel very accomplished and other days, I feel like I’m dodging hits the whole day. It’s all part of the experience and every hiccup is a learning experience for sure….. let’s just say I’m learning everyday still. Luckily, everyone I’ve had the honor to meet has been eager to help or advise and St. Louis is a great hub to start-ups and small business community.

I’m the manager for STLFusion Coworking and a mom of two little boys. I specialize in making tenants feel listened to, supported and provide an affordable environment for start-ups/small businesses/ small home offices to operate in St. Louis. What sets me apart is that I actually care a lot about the members in our space. Small businesses everywhere in the world do a better job of truly caring about the people that walk through their doors and that is definitely the case in our office as well. I take pride in taking care of all the extras that come along with running a business and hope that I can make these entrepreneurs/employees/self-employed peoples “to-do” list a little shorter. Most importantly, I get to set a good example for my boys.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory would probably be going to Table rock lake with my family. It was a perfect vacation with fishing, boating, swimming, hiking, etc. Fun and relaxing time.
