Exploring Life & Business with Brendan Giljum of Giljum Chiropractic

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brendan Giljum.

Hi Brendan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have always been health conscious and an athlete. As a 3-time collegiate All-American Racquetball player with Mizzou, I know what it is like to experience injuries and want to come back stronger. I have never been interested in working in a cubicle and have always felt called to help people get back on the court as part of a job.

When I discovered Chiropractic and realized its potential to do exactly that, I was hooked. Learning more about the opioid epidemic and the ways in which chiropractors were not only not prescribing medication, but also actively limiting the need for them really fascinated me.

Anything I can do to help point our society to a place where we are able to be pain-free, highly functioning people is what I want to do. We have too much life that needs living to limit ourselves in any way. Whether as a high-level collegiate performer, weekend warrior, or mom of 3, I believe everyone is an athlete and should take care of themselves as such!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road, as any small business may experience. From the actual 3.5 years of incredibly difficult schooling to student loans, to most importantly the business itself, it has been arduous. The process of beginning a business and marketing is definitely the hardest.

Starting from nothing takes a toll on you, and you have to eat dirt for a while to get by. As you begin to see more people the referrals start flooding in and you get the joys of watching the business grow. I am thankful for a supportive wife and family and friends that help me pursue my dreams. But it is all worth it ultimately because I am doing what I love every day, which is helping others do what they love.

When you are in pain and not performing to your peak levels, you are less happy, sicker, and less energetic. Any interaction you have is not as good as it should be and affects both you and the other person. This is why I am so passionate about helping people be their best selves. Life is too short not to be!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Our office specializes in Evidence-based Chiropractic care. What that means to our patients is that we are not trying to do anything more than coming up with a treatment plan that serves them specifically.

We don’t like to see people too much, or too little, and we love giving them the tools to be able to help themselves when they aren’t in our office. We offer all sorts of healing therapies as well, but the main point remains the same: get the patient out of pain and allow them to return to their normal life and the activities that make them who they are.

I have been so proud of how my business has been so pro-STL, just like I am. I love giving back to local companies and being able to serve the people that make our city so great.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Most people don’t know that I have applied for Survivor 3 times, am an eagle scout, and am a 3-time collegiate racquetball All-American.

Well, really a lot of people do know some of this because I am so passionate about these things but still surprising.
