Exploring Life & Business with Darielle Palmer of Queen OF Classy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darielle Palmer.

Hi Darielle, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
In 2015 I was sixteen years old when I became my own boss, I worked in the fast food industry and hated it. Doing so much work for little pay has never been my ideal lifestyle. I was a dreamer, I always wanted to live a high class lifestyle.

I hated to listen to my managers couldn’t take orders, couldn’t respect them. I felt like they settled for living paycheck to paycheck. I just knew I had to create a way for myself. I decided to go to Cosmetology School when I was a junior in high school. My school took care of the cost and I took the opportunity and I was excited. Cosmetology School was the best two years of my life. I literary grew and bonded with classmates it was amazing. After I graduated from High school and cosmetology school in 2017, I went to college. College wasn’t for me I was very depressed and stayed in my room most of the time. I didn’t like doing homework and tons of essays. I was going through a bad break up and my grades we’re at all time low. I needed something to distract me from my depression. I was at my first lowest point in my life. I took all the pain and stress and anxiety and I used that energy and created Queen of classy.

Queen of classy was created back in 2015, I trademarked my brand in 2017 (I was only 19). I just struggled with being so young and not knowing how to run a business. I’ve never had guidance, I just used trial and error and what I felt was right for my business. So I revisited it when I was feeling like nothing ,like I needed a reason to live. I spent long hours creating my website finding vendors and just working hard I didn’t leave me dorm for days are even week sometimes I wouldn’t eat. I was hungry for success. My business made me feel human and gave me something to be excited for. After my first year of college, I returned home to St. Louis for good.

I tried to go to a school back home but I still wasn’t happy and didn’t feel motivated. School was just not for me.

When the pandemic started, I dropped out in school. During the Pandemic I got a job Working for Amazon. Working for Amazon was hard. I realized, I was just surviving I wasn’t living so I quit my job august 2020. I started my business again and gave it all.

Since then, I worked in many salons, well at first I started in my house. It’s been many times I didn’t believe in myself but in a year I came along way, well really over the years. My business is a huge part of my life and happiness I just cant wait for the day I’m a real success story. So for now I work two jobs, I do hair during the day and I work over nights. I am anything I can to become my own success story.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. Sometimes you don’t have funds to support your business and you have to make do with what you have. Or sometimes you don’t feel confident in your work or you’re not in the mood to be a full time boss but you have to work though it.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
