Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Kellie Dixon.
Hi Dr. Dixon, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
First, let me say that my whole life, the good, bad, and indifferent was and continues to be driven by the purpose God has placed within me. Growing up in the countryside of Vernon Hill, Virginia – all I wanted was to help people – I just know that the path I would soon travel would be full of twists, turns, challenges, disappointments, and favor!
Though I was highly active in my schoolwork, I never wanted to go to college. I wanted to graduate high school, get a plane ticket to California and become a dancer/choreographer.
Music was and is everything to me. Well, I didn’t realize that you needed lots of money for that, as I had never been on a plane nor did I have a job (lol). I had been accepted to Virginia Commonwealth University and Virginia Union University – yet I knew Cali was calling me (lol).
Well, Cali was NOT calling me (lol) and I had a last-minute decision to attend Danville Community College in mid-August 2003. I soon graduated and went on to obtain a bachelor’s degree at Longwood University, where I became a proud and active member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. in 2006.
It was during this time that my desire to help others became more intentional – I wanted to help college-aged and up individuals, as well as organizations, reach their highest potential. Fast forward, after working at a trash bag factory, I enrolled in a master’s program at Longwood University in counseling.
I failed my first semester due to educational statistics – they took my financial aid and I had to appeal and set a goal to make A’s for the duration – in addition, I failed my comps and had to retake (whew) – In 2011, I graduated with a masters!! Afterward, I began a career in higher education!
In 2013, my world shifted. My reason for developing such a sound faith in God, my paternal grandmother passed. It shook me to my core. In the last conversation we had, she prophesied over me saying I would be a doctor and own my own business… I never let that conversation end in my mind.
A year later (despite some challenges in-between), I was admitted and enrolled in a doctoral program at Grand Canyon University – I became a doctor of education (organizational leadership and development) in the fall of 2018.
Now a lot of God aligning my path happened between 2013-2018 – that requires a more in-depth, face-to-face conversation (lol) – however, let’s just say in 2016, I started a new role in assessment – the very topic I failed my first semester of graduate school. God’s plan for my life since then has allowed me to travel the world – I have been to Cali at least 3 times since 2018 – it took a while but I made it to Cali (lol).
I became a certified Life Coach in 2017 and started my own business – Clear Pathway Consulting Services, LLC in the same year. Visit me at www.clearpathwaycs.com. In 2021, I became an on-air radio personality with my own show, Disruptive Narrative Radio Show – airing Fridays at 10 am EST via WDRBmedia radio station streaming on iHeart Radio!
I utilize my platforms as a higher education administrator, educational consultant, life coach, and radio personality to assist others in clearing their path towards goal achievement! I utilized my experiences as a foundation and platform to help others and God continues to put me just where I need to be, with what I need to show up for people when they think they are at a crossroads in life!
Lastly, during the pandemic, I published 2 books (3 months between each other) in 2020 – Recharge: A Self Awareness Approach to Goal Achievement and Reclaiming Our Affirmations (co-author with my Soror and mentee Jayde Ware).
I create spaces for people to become more self-aware so they can tackle obstacles and live the life they want and deserve every day, without sacrificing their self-worth, while honoring their purpose!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As I mentioned, it hasn’t always been a smooth road for me. Throughout my life, I have allowed imposter syndrome to settle in my heart and move through my bloodstream. This has kept me in such a comfort zone that didn’t yield the results I dreamed of having in my life.
First, battling my calling from God as an exhorter and having a gift of manifestation has been a big challenge. Too busy trying to please man rather than God and the life He has called me to do.
Second, in 2005, I had a near-death drowning experience my first semester at Longwood and it changed my whole outlook on life.
You know the light people talk of, well it was real for me. I remember seeing a light and verbally saying “I’m ready to go” and hearing God’s voice “you are giving up too easily, I am not done with you yet”. Now, I knew nothing about water and swimming, and again trying to please others and appear as I knew – I jumped into the wrong end by accident.
Third, of course, failing the first semester of my master’s program – knowing everyone sees me as this intellectual person, I couldn’t let myself know this happened – well, now they do.
Losing my paternal grandmother challenged me to live within my calling, own who I am, and walk purposefully!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
In 2017, I established Clear Pathway Consulting Services, LLC. I provide holistic wellness coaching, dissertation coaching, and educational/organizational consulting (e.g. leadership development, strategic planning).
I’m known as a Disruptive Scholar. I believe in Disrupting the Narrative to bring about positive change. I believe we must disrupt the narratives that no longer serve us – that we must learn to stop dealing with traumas and heal from them – and it all starts with self-awareness.
I have a global partnership with Core Strengths, an assessment rooted in relationship intelligence. I am a certified facilitator. This assessment has shaped how I have improved my own self-awareness. It is my go-to for coaching, training, and workshops, for both individuals and organizations.
Having my own radio show gives me an international platform. I am excited to use this platform, not only for my brand and business, yet for small business owners, and independent artists, especially within the Black community.
It’s simple for me – I am truly lifting others as God continues to allow me to climb. I go into spaces and find ways for those around me to also benefit. I understand that the vision I have requires others and I want to be supportive and inclusive in all my efforts for myself and others.
