Exploring Life & Business with Maris Miller of House Of Paws Pet Care LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maris Miller.

Hi Maris, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have always loved animals, and I’ve always had a hustle. I started pet sitting in high school to pay for my horseback riding lessons and continued into my early adult life. During the pandemic, I was a retail manager for a big box store & quickly became sick of the corporate life. Plus, I was so busy with pet sitting before & after work I knew it was time to leap! My last day in retail was the day we closed on our house. Once everything was signed and done, I to the jump to going full time & never went back!

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I have been very fortunate to stay busy & be able to hire to help ease the crazy days, but that doesn’t mean that I still don’t work 15-hour days. Pet sitting is labor intensive, and some days I leave at 6 am, and I’m not home until 10 pm. I’m lucky to have an awesome team and that my job doesn’t feel like a job most days!

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about House Of Paws Pet Care LLC?
House of Paws Pet Care is an insured & bonded pet care provider. We are a small, woman-based company that takes pride in caring for people’s creatures while away, from goldfish to horses. We are known for being Fear Free certified, which means we only use positive reinforcement tactics to work with pets.

What do you think about luck?
In a way, the pandemic boosted my business. That alone means I had a lot of good luck getting House of Paws up & running! Everyone knows about pandemic puppies & kittens, and most of my clients based is made up of animals 2 & under. As things have opened up & people went back to school and work, they needed our services. We would have a lot slower of a start without it.
