Exploring Life & Business with Misty Reed of Thoroughbred Realty Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Misty Reed.

Hi Misty, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
The story of my start in real estate is not a glamorous one, but probably very similar to others.

I started in real estate without a clue of what to do or how to get started. I responded to an online ad that happened to be in search of new realtors. After meeting with the Broker of my soon-to-be first office, a feeling of excitement and nervousness combined set me on a path to success.

Once I became licensed, it was a pretty slow start for business. I would frequent the office with visits looking for any walk-in business and followed all of the cold calling activities that anyone in sales would normally do. Six months into having my license and no real sales except the couple of deals that I co-listed with another agent… I decided I might need to return back to the traditional workforce.

That is exactly what I did. I returned to the traditional workforce with a company that had an immediate travel schedule for the first six months. Finally, my months of cold calling, postcard writing, and pop-by visits would finally pay off! My phone started to ring nonstop while traveling for work in New York.

I closed so many deals while traveling for my new job! I could not believe that all I had to do was go get a job and then my phone would ring with real estate deals. Business was good enough that I was able to make the leap back to being a full-time realtor.

This time around, I had my heart set on starting my own brokerage. I positioned myself properly with some great leadership classes, passed my brokers exam, and welcomed the inception of Thoroughbred Realty Group LLC.

Thoroughbred Realty Group LLC is a boutique brokerage where “we ensure our clients cross the closing finish line.” We are located in the heart of beautiful St. Louis County, and service the surrounding areas of St. Louis City to St. Charles County.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest challenge has been to not quit when times get hard.

I learned quickly that a great marketing plan and budget are imperative to any Realtors success. Outside of any obstacle or challenge, I would not trade my career change for anything in the world.

I eat, sleep, and breathe Thoroughbred Realty Group, and take great pride in developing other agents who care about the future of their local community and the art of real estate negotiations.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
