Exploring Life & Business with Rich Orf of Ray Orf’s Bowling and Trophy Shop

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rich Orf.

Hi Rich, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My father opened our business back in 1976 and we are at the same location 45 years later.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Having a small business is always a tough go but we have always been able to survive all the ups and downs.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Ray Orf’s Bowling and Trophy Shop?
We are a small family business specializing in bowling supplies and trophies and plaques for all sports and occasions. My father was a professional bowler in the early 1960’s and opened our store in 1976. We do a lot more volume in bowling but the trophy business is a good compliment for us. We are a free-standing location (the only one in STL) so we have a lot of inventory in stock compared to our competitors. We specialize in service service service.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Being able to make a living doing something I like to do and I am my own boss.
