Exploring Life & Business with Tabitha Bennett of All About The Sweets Bakery

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tabitha Bennett.

Hi Tabitha, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve been baking since I was a young girl around the age of three. Growing up, when others asked for Barbie dolls, I asked for play kitchenettes and easy bake ovens. I started my official bakery business in 2011 and gave it the name of All About The Sweets Bakery. Along the way, I’ve tried multiple different things to see what be my signature product or niche. I’ve made everything from biscuits, pies to decorating specialty cakes. About two years ago, I was in school full time, working on my doctorate in Counseling, and praying to ask God what I could do to set my bakery apart from others in my area. It seemed that so many others were doing the decorated cakes and even cakes in a jar.

In 2018, God answered and gave me what is now our signature product, Crunchlins. Crunchlins are Corn squares, white or milk chocolate, and Powdered Sugar. Some know it as Muddy Buddies or Puppy Chow, we’ve taken this favorite childhood snack to the next level and made it the ultimate party snack mix. We make over 15 different flavors, some seasonally only. Since 2020, we have decided to solely focused on our signature product due to a recent medical diagnosis which took away the ability to design and decorate cakes. Today, we are selling at over four different locations in the IL and MO area and looking for more SB partnerships.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have been many obstacles and a few unexpected life changes along the way for me. I try to always find positivity in any situation but let’s be real, there were moments as an entrepreneur where I didn’t know how I would survive. As I am still a very small business learning as I go along, some things I wish I could have learned from others versus having to go through the lesson myself. I’ve had to overcome self-doubt, doubt from others, the fear of failure, and just the journey of learning about how business actually works.

Personally, after learning about this sickness I now live with, I have had to make modifications to better my life and the longevity of my business. Also, I come from a very large family. Being the youngest of eight children, you kind of grow up and get in where you fit in. We were raised that education is an important thing, sometime in the next year or after, I will be the first Doctorate of Education in my family. While building this bakery business and learning about scaling, I’ve been working on my purpose in life, which is helping others receive their healing. Baking is my passion but Mental Health is my God-given purpose. This is the current struggle but I take it every day, one at a time.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I believe it’s a dual approach for this. You should have mentors that assist you throughout your career and life. Mentors help you navigate through your journey, whether that’s for your business or any other field. Networking helps with connecting you to persons, places, or things needed along the way. Any Mentors that has kept me accountable has helped me tremendously. I am quite naturally a welcoming person, I can may a conversation with anyone, which definitely help with Networking.
