Hidden Gems: Meet Daja Sharp of Trim Aesthetics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daja Sharp.

Hi Daja, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, let’s briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Growing up, I always felt like I never had a talent or hobby I genuinely enjoyed doing. I’ve always been good at multiple things; I always needed more zeal and passion to continue to do those things. Even though I attended college, I stopped going 2 yrs in after still deciding on a major. Since then, I have found my love for makeup. As that love grew, I began to take it more seriously and was able to turn my hobby into a business eventually. I had to brainstorm many ideas and different business plans with objectives attached. I had to get motivated, and most importantly, I had to practice. I practiced, practiced, practiced. I still practice today because why be good when you can be great!? You have to believe in yourself and put much effort into YOU. My business still needs to be where I want it to be, but this is only the beginning! I have big aspirations for my artistry as a brand. My ultimate ambition is to become a celebrity MUA.

We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Having a business is not for the weak! It doesn’t matter what type of business it is; you have to be really strong-minded to run a business. You will run across every problem you can imagine and more. I have yet to reach my fullest potential, so I haven’t run into the worst, but I’ve experienced some common challenges. My #1 challenge is developing a customer base; it’s more challenging than you’d think! Some others are generating revenue, increasing brand awareness, time management, and financial management. No matter how hard any of these things can get, you must keep going. Never stop!

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Trim Aesthetics?
So! I am a self-taught Makeup Artist based in St. Louis, MO. I specialize in natural looks, but my variety is impeccable. My work is very clean and precise; you will not be disappointed! I get overwhelmed with zeal when I can alter someone’s appearance to fit their mood or for the occasion. Seeing the reactions of my clients honestly keeps me going. I’m proud of myself for even starting the idea of this business. I’m so introverted and withdrawn it was so hard for me to put myself out there! I had to put all that aside and come out of my shell to be even this far. I would love to increase my clientele; I’m always available and accepting new clients.

What do you think about luck?
I wouldn’t describe any of this as luck. I would say blessed. I’m blessed to have all the resources needed to start this business. To network with different people, even for this magazine opportunity, very blessed! When challenges occur, if I fail the challenge, I look at it like a lesson, and I look at ways I can learn from that. So I wouldn’t necessarily say bad luck either; maybe a lesson learned.
