Hidden Gems: Meet Darrell Green of Grind Hard

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darrell Green.

Darrell, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
In the beginning, the love for community came from having an intimate family that always shown up for each other and supported each other’s endeavors. As I grew up and saw families falling apart, in disarray and crumbling, I also saw the effect it had on the kids in the community. Also, Being a rape victim at a young age and having to grow and develop through that process was very tough and confusing but having the support needed was a huge difference. That was the foundation to the passion of one day running/owning my own Community Center in multiple cities. The journey began with getting involved with youth & HS athletics as a coach following my collegiate career as a three sport athlete(baseball, football & track). Through my collegiate journey, I donated Bone Marrow to a 13 years old kid named Trent who suffered from leukemia, Trent was a true Warrior and the embodiment of GRIND HARD! Thus providing the foundation to us making our Colors Orange & Black(Orange being the Leukemia awareness color).

Growing up with both parents in the home and seeing the benefits of having a deep bond with my both mother & father, I saw the need for both roles in a kid’s life. I decided to get into education as a mentor, coach, teacher and minister. Being the male role model in a lot of kid’s lives that don’t have it in the home provides so much motivation to keep grinding and keep growing because it inspires those around me. This led to us developing the #WeAreTheVillage concept in our foundation. That’s the true mission, to combat obesity, depression and anxiety in the community(Village) by providing health & wellness guidance through athletic development, mentoring and fitness programs for kids& adults.

Finally, my goal is to provide the support needed for anyone of any age to be successful in any endeavor in life by having the support system & resources needed from The Village.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely wasn’t a smooth road but anything worth having is worth fighting for. Struggles came in many forms, lack of resources but making due with what I had, learning how to protect my heart and being taken advantage of when looking to help others. Sometimes people thought I was thinking too big or grinding too hard while not realizing many hands lightens the load so their help instead of ridicule would’ve made a difference. Finally not having an example to learn from on starting a business, starting a foundation, the daily operational tasks and responsibilities while providing for self and supporting 100s of kids & families in the midst of my own personal development through what I’ve experienced growing up. The balancing of it all has been tough but worth it. At times putting myself on the back burner catches up to me when it comes to rest & self-care. I’m usually stuck in tunnel vision of building up the village and those a part of it with whatever resources & support I can provide. Wanting to be great and wanting others to be just as great brings many stresses to the table because sometimes I would want something more for a person than they did. Had to learn how to be a farmer, planting seeds and tending to different crops until that seed took root and grew.

As you know, we’re big fans of Grind Hard Inc. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
G.R.I.N.D H.A.R.D Inc. is a lifestyle & wellness brand/company that focuses on developing people in the village through fitness, athletics, mentoring & community service.

We offer personal training, athletic performance & development, group classes, health consulting, summer camps for kids, equipment assistance programs for low-income families and mentoring.

I am known for the variety of lives that I have impacted throughout the area. Now I’ve reached the point of coaching the coaches & trainers on their program design with workouts & business structure for their brands.

GRIND HARD is more than just a brand or saying, it’s a lifestyle & mindset.

This mindset & philosophy has changed and will continue to change the lives of many.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is the result of a process or plan that was created to improve the life of one or the lives of many. Whatever that may look like for you, long as you can measure the growth from the beginning to the end.
