Hidden Gems: Meet Michelle Knight of Brandmerry

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Knight.

Hi Michelle, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
In December 2015, my son was born, and through the process of becoming a mother, I was also reborn. During this period I decided that I no longer wanted to work a 9 to 5 and instead focus on creating my online brand and business. I spent about eight months navigating motherhood, working a full-time job, and building my first business. This business was Brandmerry! Over the course of building my business, I struggled to find my voice, clearly communicate it through my branding, and figure out the best ways to market. When I discovered brand storytelling and more importantly how to uncover my own story, strengths, and intellectual property my business took off. In one year, I built a 6-figure brand and left my 9 to 5. Over the past six years, I’ve developed a sustainable business and helped entrepreneurs do the same. This emphasis on building a sustainable business has resulted in my ability to retire my husband, travel the world as a family and so much more. And, this mission comes from the grief I’ve experienced in my life after the loss of my brother to childhood cancer. It encouraged me to start fully living and creating a life I was proud of. Having this brand and business allows me to do just that and I love supporting other people in doing the same. I truly believe every entrepreneur deserves a business that gives them the time and space to truly live.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No way has it been smooth! There’s a reason they call it the entrepreneur rollercoaster. However, the journey has been 100% worth it. My biggest struggle, in the beginning, was finding my voice and truly understanding the way I wanted to show up in the world. When I first started I did what most entrepreneurs do and that’s looking to see what other “successful” brands are doing. This led to a brand that felt disconnected from my own personality and mission. I decided to redo the entire branding process and through it, I grew a lot as a business owner and woman. But, it worked and now I teach entrepreneurs how to develop a story-based brand.

Then, after selling our home and moving into an RV to travel full-time around the United States, I had to make quick changes in marketing my business. Not only was I met with limited wifi, not ideal for an online business, but I also wanted to experience all the amazing places we were visiting. I struggled with letting go of what had worked to build a 6-figure business and make these changes to my marketing practices and offers. But, again, it was an amazing move because it gave me even more free time and increased revenue. I went from focusing on finding clients online to instead attracting them to my brand.

Throw in taxes my first year in business, hires that didn’t work out and my first failed launch and you get it – growing a business is not easy! However, I stand by my belief that even struggles can lead to the best discoveries and opportunities for growth.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Brandmerry supports entrepreneurs who struggle with building sustainable revenue to master brand storytelling and advanced marketing strategies so they can escape the pressure of social media and finally get their brand seen and paid consistently.

We do this by focusing on three core pillars: Story, Systems, and Strategy. These three elements are essential when building a sustainable 6-figure brand.

Understanding who you are (aka your story) will help you make more aligned decisions with your branding and marketing. Having the systems in place will allow you to consistently scale your business without requiring you to be chained to your laptop. And, implementing advanced strategies will give you consistent leads and sales to create sustainable revenue.

Our core offer, at Brandmerry, is Brandmerry Academy an online program helping entrepreneurs build sustainable businesses. After years of investing in multiple programs that didn’t quite hit the mark, I knew I wanted to create a program that not only taught the best strategies but also provided support. Building a business is not easy, and it’s important that entrepreneurs build a business that contributes to their life and not depletes it. Many of the strategies online are a one-size-fits-all approach and that just doesn’t work for more people. We support our students with top strategies on branding, marketing, storytelling, copywriting, website conversions, and more. As well as mindset, productivity, habits, and tech support.

Many of our students are solopreneurs, building their service-based businesses with the goal of creating more time, financial, and location freedom. They not only want to be successful but also sustainable in their efforts.

I’m so proud of what my company has created and know we’re just getting started. Not only, am I honoring my commitment to myself in building a business that allows me to truly live my life, but I get to help others do the same. At Brandmerry we believe in creating income and impact, and seeing the ripple effect that our content, courses, and support have created for others is truly amazing.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I’ve had so much support along the way, there is absolutely no way I could have done this myself. My husband, Ben, has been my greatest support and cheerleader. He was the one who believed in me long before I did and encouraged me to leave my 9 to 5. He has also been my sounding board for every decision in my business. Today, he gives me the space and energy to grow my company by handling everything else in our life, including homeschooling our son. He also serves as Multimedia Manager at Brandmerry and edits my videos and podcasts. He’s just the freaking best!

I’ve also had so many friends and family in my corner every step of the way. The biggest support they’ve given me is an unwavering belief in me. Sometimes, that’s all we need when building a company because doubt can creep in so often. They might not all understand what I do, but they believe in what I’m creating and for that, I’m so thankful.

Most recently, in the past few years, I’ve had the honor to work alongside my Operations Manager Delana. Delana was a former client of mine and when I reached a place in my business where I needed more support she was the first person I reached out to. It’s been so fun to build the business alongside her and her knowledge and ideas keep me inspired! Not to mention, she pretty much keeps everything running behind the scenes so I can focus on supporting clients in the best way possible.

There are so many people who have played a role and I feel so fortunate to have had them in my corner all these years.
