Today we’d like to introduce you to Noelle Daoire.
Hi Noelle, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I began my career in 2011 after graduating with a BFA in Creative Writing from Truman State University. Since then, I’ve worked on and off as a freelance writer/editor, and as a mentor/tutor in higher education. I had a part-time job with a local attorney, who encouraged me to return to school. I was considering law school, but then I came across an ad for a degree in counseling. Before that, I didn’t realize there was such a thing; I thought you had to get a degree in psychology. When I began at Truman, psychology was my major, but it didn’t feel right to me because it focused on the medical model. So, I switched to Creative Writing because it was my other passion. When I looked into counseling, I knew immediately it was what I’d been looking for. I started at UMSL in 2015 and graduated in 2019 with my MEd in Mental Health Counseling. In the Spring of 2021, I decided to transition my practice to coaching instead because it allowed much more flexibility in who I could help, when I could help them, and where I could help them. In March 2022, I officially incorporated my business – Level Up Coaching & Consulting, LLC.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road at all. In my personal life, I have struggled with depression, anxiety, ADHD, OCD, and chronic pain/illness. I went through a stressful custody dispute with my ex from 2018-to 2019. My current partner had a stroke around the new year, and is very ill. I am funding my business 99% on my own, and given all the above issues, my finances are not okay. I’ve struggled internally with many self-doubts because I’m not following the traditional career route. I know I’ve chosen a hard road, but I also know it’s the only road for me.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I am an LGBTQ+, body/fat positive, BIPOC affirming, secular coach specializing in ADHD, anxiety, and chronic pain. Level Up Coaching & Consulting empowers queer, neurodivergent people struggling with overwhelm, anxiety, and uncertainty to build personal agency, confidence, and fulfillment in their lives and relationships. We serve allies/practitioners/service providers of queer, neurodivergent people struggling with ADHD, chronic pain, anxiety, or non-traditional relationship challenges through consulting services to increase the quality of client/patient care. I provide one-on-one coaching, group coaching, workshops, and B2B consultation. Accessibility and social justice are essential to me, so I strive to make my services more readily accessible through sliding scale, payment plan, and package discount options. My focus is on helping people work WITH their brain, rather than against it. I am a genuine, down-to-earth kind of person. I share many of my struggles, and my clients seem to appreciate that. I’ve been told I have a very calming presence. I work a lot with university/college students, work-from-home folks, and entrepreneurs struggling with overwhelm, lack of focus, organizational issues, etc.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some changes you expect to see over the next five to ten years?
Coaching is exploding as an industry. In particular, I see many therapists, psychologists, and social workers transitioning to coaching rather than therapy. I see a big reason for this being the current licensure limitations, especially in counseling, which prevents us from serving anyone outside the states we’re licensed in. As a coach, I can help people around the world – in fact, I currently have clients in Australia, New Zealand, and the UK! This is one of the big reasons I chose not to pursue licensure myself.
