Hidden Gems: Meet Tiffany Dorsey of Sugaz Kouture Boutique

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Dorsey.

Hi Tiffany, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Sugaz Kouture Boutique was birthed out of my desire to make curvy women look good, feel good, and love every inch of the skin they are in. My goal was to minister to women’s hearts, empower and uplift women, and create a safe place for women to be themselves. Several years ago, I found a box of old pictures from my teenage and early adult years. As I looked at each picture, I thought about who I was during that time. I was forced to face a harsh truth: I lacked confidence and did not feel good about who I was or how I looked. I was what society called “fat” and was often reminded that I carried what I call a little extra love. After the realization that I was not in a good place, I was determined to heal so that I could inspire women who were like me. I wanted to help women see what I had not seen in myself – a beautiful, strong woman with a heart for people. I would do this through my love of Fashion. Fashion is the essence of who you are, how it makes you feel, and the perfect expression of your real inner you. I started the business in the back bedroom of my home. Six months later, my husband and I began searching for a storefront. We found the perfect intimate location. We reside in the same location today. With support from my amazing husband, friends, and personal commitment, dedication, and gratitude for what I have been blessed with, Sugaz Kouture Boutique continues to thrive.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been fairly smooth?
Entrepreneurship is not easy. We make it look easy. However, there will always be challenges businesses have to face. Fortunately for me, there has not been anything that I have not been able to overcome. The biggest challenge we had to endure was closing our doors for 3 months due to the pandemic. Although those were uncertain times, I knew we would be okay. The goal was for me not to come out of pocket to pay bills at the store. Thank God I was able to meet that goal each month. Other than the normal challenges businesses face, I cannot say I have experienced many struggles during my 7 years in the boutique business.

We’ve been impressed with Sugaz Kouture Boutique, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Sugaz Kouture Boutique specializes in sexy, trendy, and stylish fashion for the voluptuous woman. We offer pieces in our store, and online that enhance the beauty you already possess. We emphasize the importance of loving the fashion out of you – flaws and all. Our Motto is “Be Good With You.”

What sets us apart from others is we offer an experience—choosing everything in that store with a purpose. The color on the wall in the front and back is called Cheerful Yellow. We want you to feel good when you come in and leave. The magic is what happens while you are in the store. You will laugh, cry, learn, share, and motivate – you will get something from the store. It’s so much bigger than fashion. It’s about the heart. It is a family, the Sugaz Family.

I’m proud of the continuous support we receive worldwide. I’m most proud that Sugaz Kouture Boutique is known for carrying various high-quality pieces. Recently, Tabitha Brown rocked a pair of our So Tied Up Jeans from our store. The support from people all over the world left me in awe. I’m grateful for everything and that God blessed me to oversee this amazing business. We cater the curvy women and will soon include fashion for all sizes. We offer styling services for individuals and groups. I’m also currently working towards my 501c3 called KKandii’zKidz. We want to be instrumental in teaching children life skills.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Several Mentors will assist you for a fee. I would suggest doing the proper research to ensure that person will provide you with the skills and resources needed for your business. There are also several networking events that you can attend. Utilize groups on social media related to your line of business. Visit and support other business owners and find a way to partner and support each other. I have utilized all of the above resources. Each has been beneficial in helping me enhance and improve my business knowledge.
