Inspiring Conversations with Calvin Kinard of Boogie Bulls

Today we’d like to introduce you to Calvin Kinard.

Hi Calvin, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve always had a passion for dogs since birth. As a youth, I watched dog shows and training specials. Throughout my adulthood (after college) I began to train in many different areas of dog care. From vet and kennel tech to dog grooming to training, show handler and now dog breeding. I was blessed to be able to study under some of the best veterinarians, breeders, trainers and animal caretakers. My love for dogs continues to grow with each passing year.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing in life worth anything comes easily. I have lived and learned that lesson multiple times. Some of the struggles I’ve experienced while building clientele and finding reliable contractors to expand my facility have been difficult throughout the years. From being one of the few African American male dog handlers, it was very hard to overcome racism and prejudice. Yet the hardest struggle has been managing family time while trying to be a successful business owner.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Boogie Bulls: business which involves breeding high quality dogs. We specialize in producing the best quality French Bull Dogs, with a pure European bloodline. Our exotic colors are one of a kind. What sets me apart from the other breeders is my passion and love for dogs in which all of the dogs I sell are personally whelped by me within my home for 8 weeks. My dogs all are nationally AKC registered and they each come with a 6 month help guarantee. My dogs are not just pets they are family members for my clients. I give lifelong assistance and advice whenever it comes to a puppy I have sold. I am most proud of giving my 100% to each and every dog in which I have not had any unsatisfied clients. In fact, I have built such a great rapport with them, more than half have returned to purchase more dogs from me or have recommended me to others.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Honestly, I feel like the dog industry has grown a lot over the past couple of years due to social media and their influencers. I see this upward spike to be continuous as more and more people gain knowledge on all the work that goes into dog breeding.
