Inspiring Conversations with Christal Rogers of Brownpreneurs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christal Rogers.

Hi Christal, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m a native St. Louisan who was born and raised in the north county area. Since 2002, I have helped numerous businesses, nonprofits, and individuals grow their operations by executing successful events and developing a clear, consistent marketing strategy.

I have a Bachelors’s Degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in marketing from the University of Missouri St. Louis and a Masters’s Degree in Nonprofit Administration from Lindenwood University. In 2019 I started Brownpreneurs, a nonprofit organization to encourage brown students to pursue entrepreneurship.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
For our inaugural year, I had a strategic plan prepared consisting of various events to help us building brand awareness and build community support. Unfortunately, the COVID pandemic hit, and most of those events were canceled. So, it has been a challenge to find volunteers to help us undergird our organization.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Brownpreneurs?
Brownpreneurs is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization located in Saint Louis, Missouri. We provide entrepreneurial training for brown high school and college students in the metropolitan area. All our programs are offered free of charge; there is no cost to the student or their family to attend. Our mission is to develop the next generation of brown entrepreneurs, one student at a time.

We want to teach our brown youth to dream ambitiously, live audaciously, and to hope beyond limits.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I sincerely love seeing brown students do well in life and dream ambitiously. One of the reasons I started Brownpreneurs was to encourage them in those endeavors. I hate when people try to dissuade them from becoming a business owner because of their previous failures.
