Inspiring Conversations with Haley Wiggins of H.K Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Haley Wiggins.

Hi Haley, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have had a love for hair and beauty since I can remember-from my barbies to my dolls, anything that had hair I was styling or cutting for the “fashion shows” I would have for them.

As I got older it went from my dolls to my girlfriends and family. I was always the hairstylist at our sleepovers. I may have even cut a friend’s bangs and we may have tried to tape her hair back on with tape. LOL!

It’s always been that one thing that I knew I was supposed to do in life but I didn’t quite know exactly what lane I would take. There are so many different options in our beautiful cosmetology industry.

If someone would have told me 5 years ago that I would open my own suite and have my own business I don’t know if I would have believed them. I was so lost in life after I graduated from cosmetology school. I worked in a corporate salon for about 2 years and realized I wasn’t cut out to work for someone else. I wanted to work for the person I had faith in all along which was myself.

I was asked to do a wedding with a girlfriend that I met in cosmetology school and little did I know that I would absolutely fall in love with doing wedding hair. I’ve always loved love, weddings, and romance, I just never really found it for myself. However, I get to witness it almost every weekend when I get to travel to these amazing weddings and be a part of life-changing experiences.

Yes, I get in my car and cry after all of them because it makes me so genuinely happy to love what I do and to be able to share that with another person on such a big day. Man or woman you should feel beautiful on your wedding day and every other day in your life. That’s the main reason I think I’ve always wanted to be in this industry.

I genuinely love to help someone feel like the best version of themselves on any given day. Everyone deserves that.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
If it were a smooth road I don’t think I would be the same person today and I don’t think I would have accomplished the things that I have. Those bumps in the road are what paved the way and what are still paving my way in life. I needed to be humbled, I needed to hit every bump in the road because each time it challenged me.

It made me want to turn all of my negative energy into something positive. It’s hard to be negative when you look and feel good and that’s what finally clicked with me. I was holding myself back, I was my own struggle because I was scared of what I could actually do and be in the world. I was scared to take a leap and scared of what obstacles would get in my way. Financials were probably the biggest obstacle to overcome, however.

Working a full-time job, weddings on the weekends as well as other services that I offer, picking up side jobs just to bring in more income to support opening my business. It was a lot! I also have 2 fur babies to take care of on top of bills and credit cards from starting a business. There was so much for me to learn, and of course, I had to fail and make discoveries from my failed attempts but I kept attempting.

Yes, I kept going into debt but I believed in myself, and that debt that I was so stressed about turned out to be temporary. My biggest struggle by far was staying confident. Wondering if it would all be worth it if it would work out how I had imagined but I think I learn every day that it isn’t always exactly what we imagine because sometimes it’s better!

We’ve been impressed with H.K Studio, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The H is for my first name, Haley. The K is for my mother’s middle name because I had to make her a part of it in some way considering she is my backbone in life and my business wouldn’t be possible without her. I specialize in bridal hair as well as eyelash extensions.

I also offer house calls for hair services for those who prefer the comfort of their own home. I think what sets me apart from others would be that I am able to travel with all of my services. Being able to have someone come to you for your beauty needs is to me, a game changer.

I am very much so a person who would love to never leave my house but for some, it’s a convenience for other reasons and honestly, you don’t even have to have a reason to want your hair done at your house! I think I am the proudest brand-wise of my bridal work.

After seeing photos of the candid interactions I’ve exchanged with brides it’s so heartwarming to see the looks I catch us exchanging. It truly makes me so happy and reassures me they feel as beautiful as they look all while trusting me in the process.

I would like readers to know that I chose to start traveling when I realized how much I sometimes dread leaving my house, washing my hair, or small things that make such a big difference in how we feel day to day. If I can be a small part of helping you turn your day around by doing something like washing and styling your hair then I cant wait to be a part of that for you.

I also offer eyelash extensions because when I had my first eyelash service I remember how they made me feel. I felt like I no longer needed to wear makeup, I wanted to focus more on my skincare because when I woke up it looked like I already had mascara on and it gave me a different feeling about myself.

The feeling of “Wow, I really look great with no make up I would just like to start taking better care of my skin.” That thought made me think of how I would save a whole hour of getting ready in the morning, and that alone made me feel better.

Like I do not need to take an hour every day to do my makeup to make myself feel pretty. I needed to notice and appreciate my natural beauty, and MAN was it less maintenance. lol! I hope to bring that feeling to anyone who gets eyelash extensions.

On the bridal side of things, I want my future brides to know that even though I have not been lucky enough to find my husband yet, I try to put myself in every bride’s shoes and imagine what I would expect on the day of my wedding and I can only hope but to exceed the standards they have set so that they feel they’re most beautiful on their wedding day.

Women empowering other women is core to why I do what I do.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I have learned is to just be who I am in every aspect.

People appreciate real and genuine. Being myself attracts the clientele I want to work with as well as the clientele that would like to work with me.
