Inspiring Conversations with Jessica Laurinaitis-Roller of Revive Design + Styling

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Laurinaitis-Roller.

Jessica, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I initially started going to The Art Institutes International in Minnesota in 2010 for Interior Design. I then had my son in April of 2011 at the age of 21. I continued my schooling without taking any semesters off. My brother played professional football for the St. Louis Rams at the time and he called me in 2012 to tell me that they opened up the Art Institute of St. Louis. I was living with my Dad and son at the time who was a one year old and we chose to move to St. Louis to be closer to my brother in Missouri and my other brother in Ohio. The move at the time seemed like the best idea!

I continued my schooling and graduated from The Art Institute of St. Louis in 2015 with my Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design. Throughout my schooling, I started to intern at an Interior Design firm named The Design Source Limited. I was later employed as a part-time employee and, once I graduated, became a full-time designer. I was lucky enough to be at The Design Source Limited for nearly ten years and learned so much as a person and, of course an Interior Designer. In September of 2020, I suddenly lost my father and my entire world changed. My son was nine at the time. When I say my world got flipped upside down, I mean it got flipped upside down, inside out, twisted around, and still hasn’t settled down. At that moment in time, I realized it was my time to move on from The Design Source Limited and start my own thing. I created my company, Revive Design + Styling. Revive is a full-service Interior Design firm and wedding stylist. I absolutely love what I am doing, but most importantly, I love my story. I chose to start my own thing because my Dad although, gone at the time, showed me the way. He wanted what was best for me and could see how unhappy I was in my current situation. I owe everything to him. Currently, in 2021, I am still designing, and styling weddings, my husband and I celebrated our one year anniversary, my son turned 10, and we are expecting a baby in February of 2022, although all of it is very bittersweet without the most incredible man here, my Dad. I always have and always will continue to grind through this insanely unpredictable and gut-wrenching life.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Smooth road? What is a smooth road exactly? Having my son at 21 years old was the most incredible thing I have ever been through in my entire life. My son is my entire world, but I was young and inexperienced, and if it weren’t for my Dad, I don’t know where my son and I would be. My Dad helped me raise my son. I knew once moving to St. Louis that I was going to finish my schooling and continue designing. I was never going to give up on my dream of getting my design degree. I have dreamt about having my own business but did not think it would happen the way that it did, but I’m thankful. I continue to struggle every single day with depression, anxiety, and constant grief of losing my Dad, but I continue to push for my son, my husband, and my family.

We’ve been impressed with Revive Design + Styling, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
It took me a long time to come up with the name, I wanted something simple. I liked the one word. I had a huge list of names that I went through trying to figure out which one felt like me, and all of a sudden Revive came up. Revive means so much to me because I am trying to Revive myself every single day, continuing to fight through the struggles of life, loss, and milestones. Revive is more than just a name to me. I of course, added Design + Styling to the name so there wouldn’t be any confusion for those who do not know my company. I am a full-service Interior Design firm, which means that I can design all-size projects from custom homes, large renovations, small renovations, and of course, decorating and accessorizing. I am highly efficient in AutoCAD and love providing drawings and renderings for my clients. I specialize in color, picking out paint colors and making a room together is my thing. It has become second nature.

I would like people to know that I would love to be able to help you, whether your project is big or small. I feel as if everyone should have access to a designer if they would like. I am very budget conscious and will work with whatever types of vendors my clients would like to choose, within reason. I will gladly give my opinion from experience on certain vendors and, of course, not afraid to give my design opinion. I will design to my clients’ styles and will respectfully push them out of their comfort zone to give them the look that they love!

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My entire family. My family has been so helpful to me throughout this entire process and of course, raising my son. My Dad was my number one supporter and would always push me to be better. I will never forget what he has done for me. As I mentioned before, he helped me raise my son, and I am so thankful. My son is a lot like my Dad and that I love. My Dad and Step-Mom would constantly watch my son for me and take him to sporting events. They would let him sleepover or pick him up from school when I would have a late client meeting. I am forever grateful. My Husband and my Son have been my rocks through everything, especially losing my Dad. Some days I want to give up and give in to my sadness and stay in bed, but my Husband and Son push me to keep going. My son is my best friend in the entire world, and he is the reason I do everything that I do. My husband is my number one supporter and I love him so much and I am so lucky to have him. He deals with my outbursts, my fear, my grief rollercoaster that I am on every single day and he always keeps a level head. My family deserves all of the credit.
