Inspiring Conversations with Kate Willming of The Venue at Wildflower Ridge

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kate Willming.

Hi Kate, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Believe it or not, my story starts in high school – I fell in love with my sweetheart. He has always dared to say and do what’s on his mind. Throughout our time together, we’ve made sacrifices and decisions that we know would set us up for big opportunities later in life. We spent our time listening to people that’s been-there-done-that and learning from podcasts, seminars, books, and other classes. From there, we started our own construction company from scratch. We began with residential homes in 2014, moved to multi-family buildings by 2019, and are currently on our latest commercial investment – the venue. We’ve had so much encouragement along the way we knew we were destined to succeed! You know, why beg for a seat when you can build your own table?

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
We’ve been through some faith-shaking hard times but getting back up was always the result. I like to follow the three “C” rules for a fulfilling life: choices, chances, and changes. “You must choose to take a chance, or your life will never change.” You weren’t born to pay bills and die – so live! You are in charge of your own life, and nothing is stopping you from reaching your goals – you’ve just got to want them bad enough!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I am the Owner/ Venue Director at Wildflower Ridge. I am one of the “sisters” behind the hard work that goes into this beautiful space. Hannah Bailey is our Events Director and she sparked this idea back in 2019. We knew this area needed a bigger, more luxurious venue destination and have been working hard since 2020 to make that happen for our community. The Venue at Wildflower Ridge is well-known for its breathtaking 25′ window-walls overlooking the farm. This is a one-of-a-kind building that was literally designed at the kitchen table. We are a BRAND NEW, built from the ground up, event venue with seating available for 320 guests – we are the newest and largest in our area! We will sit on a 20-acre patch of wildflowers, overlooking a 300+ acre farm. We have a white exterior with a black, tin roof that is matched with a similar interior with white shiplap walls and 25′ arch top windows. Overlooking the wildflowers, a 360-degree “skylight” of transom windows, cedar beams, and black fixtures give you that hometown, homegrown, farmhouse feel. We have located down a 1/2-mile private drive with no background noise, meaning no wineries, restaurants, etc. We’re an event venue that solely focuses on providing a slice of God’s countryside for you this coming October 2022!

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
My biggest advice to anyone trying to fulfill their dream is to GO BIG. You must pour your heart and soul into your work from day one. None of this “I’m just going to start small or try it out or dip my toes in first.” This is why over 20% of small businesses fail within the first year, and by year five, 50% of them fail. Research to find your target market and plan accordingly, even find someone willing to invest in you! We all know it takes money to make money – and what better way to make money than when it doesn’t even feel like work because you’re doing what you love? Readers, “I pray for your healing, that circumstances would change, I pray that the fear inside you would flee, I pray that a breakthrough would happen today, I pray for miracles over your life, I pray for revival and restoration of faith, in Jesus’ name.” These are quotes from my favorite song, “In Jesus’ Name” by Katy Nichole. Don’t wait for your life to be easier before you decide to make your dreams come true. It’ll happen, friends – be brave.
