Inspiring Conversations with Kyle Landwehr of Slam Dunkin Junk

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyle Landwehr.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
As a young kid, I always liked nice things whether it was houses, cars watches, etc. I knew that it would be hard to afford my expensive taste without making a lot of money. That’s when I began to think about being an entrepreneur, but I never knew how or what to start. I ended up going to college because I was clueless and didn’t know what to do with my life.

As I was in school, I quickly realized that school wasn’t for me and ended up dropping out after the first semester. I started a job as an electrician shortly after where I started to mature. I had to start waking up at 4 am and go to industrial job sites and it really opened my eyes up to what I really wanted to do. I remember every single day I was thinking of any possible thing I could do to quit my 9-5 and create my own empire.

After about a year, I had enough and quit that 9-5 job as an electrician. I came across the idea of starting a junk removal business and thought that I would give it a try. I spent nearly all the money I had saved up to start this business. Once I was ready to start, covid came into the area so I figured it was going to shut my business down and I would be a failure.

I had no other choice but to prove the people wrong who didn’t believe in me. I hustled day in and day out all year long in 2020 and did 6 figures in sales my first year. At the start of 2021, I had 5 full-time employees and an office, and we started buying houses through the business which generated a significant increase in our revenue. At the end of 2021, we ended off with about half a million in sales.

Now in 2022, we have 5 full-time employees, 3 trucks, and an office and we will do well over a million dollars in sales by the end of the year. This business will wholesale and flip about 5-10 houses this year. I began teaching people around the country in 2022 how they can start a junk removal business and scale it to 7 figures and that leads me to where I’m at today.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Nothing was ever smooth about running this business. There were multiple times I thought about giving up. There have been days when I’ve broken my ankle on a job site.

There have been days when I’ve lost thousands of dollars from small mistakes. As a young business owner, I could never get a loan for my business so I was stuck paying cash for vehicles that were older that would need a lot of maintenance done and there was nothing I could do about it.

There were multiple times I almost went broke trying to risk it all but it made me smarter and smarter every day. Struggling is a part of the game and there are a few people who can win the game and I’m going to be one of them.
