Inspiring Conversations with Makeda Swanks of Badd Bunni

Today we’d like to introduce you to Makeda Swanks.

Hi Makeda, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I have been sewing since I was a little girl making sock dresses for my Barbie. I learned how to make wigs on the sewing machine the first time operating, then took an interest in sewing garments.

I took up exotic dancewear in March of 2021. I have been making exotic dancewear for a year now, and love it. I improved my sewing within a few months with consistency and determination.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s not always a smooth ride learning new things.

Sometimes your machine jams, and you have to stop your flow and fix it. There are mistakes that need to be corrected so you have to bust out that seam ripper and start all over. But towards the end, it’s all worth it because you made your customer happy.

Errors with digital patterns so the pattern maker has to send a hard copy.

As you know, we’re big fans of Badd Bunni LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At Badd Bunni, LLC. I am the owner and seamstress of this exotic dancewear business. I make great quality dancewear with a 5-star rating in my Etsy shop.

I make sizes XS-3X depending on the outfit. Or one size fits most with a different range of styles. My clothing can also be worn at raves. I’m versatile with gentlemen’s clubwear, urban, goth, and anime. Yes, there are strippers that love anime, and I love to cater to them.

Wholesale and custom orders will be coming soon.

What matters most to you?
Satisfying my customers knowing I helped bring food to the table. Seeing how I helped someone feel sexy on their first-day dancing.

Once I make something in a particular fabric it’s for that customer only, and I won’t repeat it with the same fabric.
