Inspiring Conversations with Samantha Carter of The Carter Experience

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Carter.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey started while I was in college. I attended Stephens College in Columbia, MO and graduated in 2014 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Entrepreneurship and Business Management with a Minor in Special Event Planning. I originally took my first event planning course just to get the credit. However, it turned into something I really enjoyed, so that led me to adding Special Event Planning as a minor.

Something that stuck with me from that course was the discussion of Walt Disney in relation to Disney World. There was a quote in which I cannot find, but to sum it up, Walt Disney elaborated on making Disney World such an experience for its guest that they will forget about what they have going on outside of the park. The goal was to be able to step away from everyday life and just enjoy the moment and take in the magical experience. That is what led me to create The Carter Experience. I design events for my clients to truly enjoy that moment and experience happiness that they can talk about for years to come. My inspiration in creating an experience comes from Walt Disney.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting this business, I knew there would be some challenges but I was determined. I was working a full-time job when I started so there were some late nights and even some early mornings as well. Sleep was limited but that was okay for me because I had a dream I wanted to pursue. I eventually discovered balance with working a full-time job and running a business. Later into the journey, I was able to tend to my business full time. Almost soon after I hit the ground running, we were hit with a global pandemic. That has been the toughest challenge for me thus far. It felt like the world had literally stopped, so as a result, I started thinking of ways to pivot my services. This is how I created my service known as Party in A Box. The Party in a Box is a box that consists of DIY party decorations for small gatherings. As restrictions are being lifted, I am able to get back into my original event planning services while still offering the Party in a Box.

We’ve been impressed with The Carter Experience, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Aside from just being my last name, Carter is an acronym that I created and it stands for Creative And Ready To Execute Remarkably. That explains what my business does and how I design events for my clients. I take time to get to know my clients and their wants for the event. I then combine creative ideas with their desires for the event and execute the “away from normal everyday life” experience. As I mentioned early on, Walt Disney is a huge inspiration in the process of executing events. I believe my process of event execution is what sets me apart from others. My services include event planning and event design. For those who may not know what the difference is, event planning involves organizing the logistics of the event from the very beginning of the process down to the very end. My event design services consist of creating and executing the decor aspects of the event. Every event is personalized and I take pride in creating each event in correlation to the client’s personality while providing that experience. The Carte Experience isn’t just the event, but it is also the heartwarming customer service that I provide as well. Working with me, you can expect enjoyment, courtesy, and an overall pleasant experience.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice for those starting out would be to do what makes you happy. Be unapologetic with your confidence and believe in yourself. Life happens and things change, so it is okay to make adjustments along the way. Don’t be discouraged by the idea that your industry is oversaturated. There is no one out there that is exactly like you. Everyone is unique in their own way.
