Today we’d like to introduce you to Steve Ewing.
Steve, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Co-founder of rock band, The Urge and founder of Steve’s Hot Dogs. I started playing I. The band at the age of 17 in high school. We quickly gained a following in the Midwest region by touring heavily. W we eventually signed a major deal with Sony/Immortal Records and continued to tour while supporting a number of Billboard charting singles. In 2002, The Urge took a break and I began cultivating ideas for other businesses including food service. In 2009 I bought a hot dog cart with idea of making a little extra money on the side. I really enjoyed feeling people and decided on a brick and mortar in The Hill neighborhood in 2011. Three years later. We opened our second location in The Tower Grove East Neighborhood. The original location has closed but the Tower Grove location is running strong!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was never truly smooth. The process of registering and licensing the business and gaining occupancy was very trying. It took a good year to truly come into our identity as a brand.
As you know, we’re big fans of Steve’s Hot Dogs, LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We are St. Louis’ premier Hot Dog shop. Built on locally sourced meats, bread and cheeses. Our smoked dogs have a very unique and recognizable outdoor flavor. We’re proud of the extra work it takes to smoke and prepare our fresh ingredients.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I don’t actually have a foodservice background. I just love food and swing people eat my food.
