Life & Work with Katie Ames

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Ames.

Hi Katie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
My background is in working with IT in software development and then also have a more creative side with a degree in advertising.

A couple of years ago as I would hang out with friends I noticed that we’d always be creating ways to compete and one-up each other against friends or friend groups – who had the craziest event happen on a night out, what fun we saw that evening, etc., and I thought it would be so fun to keep track and more formally “compete” with them.

As I thought about it and started to build out early prototypes, I realized that so many games we play, scavenger hunts, bachelorette parties, pub crawls, workout challenges, etc.

All have a similar progression of camaraderie and competition. I think at that point I realized that my game could not only be fun for friends to play but could also be a very valuable tool for businesses. Currently, there are so many online challenges that people are filling out on paper; these types of events are great, but businesses that host them often get overwhelmed as they try to keep track of everyone’s progress.

We are currently finishing up a web app and should have that available in the coming weeks.

Once we’ve done that we’ll move it over to native apps (App Store, Google play).

We hope that in the future if you are hosting a workout challenge, bachelorette party, or other scavenger hunt-style event you’ll consider doing so on our platform.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There’s been a lot of false starts, most notably I had lots of contacts and a product right when the pandemic was starting, but it just felt like the wrong time to push it out as so many businesses were overwhelmed and not able or interested in starting something new.

Luckily, I’ve been able to put things on hold and come back as many people are ready to move forward from the last few years.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Sorry I wasn’t sure which option to pick so I put “Other”. I’ve designed a software app.

Our goal is to be known as the app for online challenges so that if you or your business is hosting any type of challenge (whether that’s workout challenges, scavenger hunts, bachelorette parties, pub crawls, or more) you’ll know you can go and upload a game on our platform.

I feel that while other companies have done similar things they are either – brand specific or have a heavy VR or AR component. On a whole different side, many companies still host their challenges on paper.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Tenacity, an optimistic attitude, and good luck (and of course the harder you work the luckier you get).

  • $5 / to upload a game
  • $0 / to play
