Life & Work with Kevin Lee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Lee.

Hi Kevin, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am the Assistant Director for Stomp the World. I got where I am today due to my partner Mark Cohen. He is the Director. When he first told me his vision of the organization, I jumped on the bandwagon because it is something I am passionate about. Stomp the World creates educational and life experiences outside the classroom for students. I believe the mission in itself is awesome. Especially these days. I feel kids in certain areas should be exposed to more than what is in their community. They need to know that there is a life outside of their “normal environment”. I was a kid that grew up around drugs and gang violence and I got out of that because I wanted different. I believe this organization helps kids to see that they have more than what is around them and you can get out of that community if you want to. It gives them hope.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been smooth. I mean, I cater to this organization because I was a kid that could have benefited from an organization like Stomp the World. Not only that but it is hard trying to run a nonprofit and work more than one full-time job. It is like having three jobs. As well as it is hard trying to maintain the organization when you cannot put all of your time into it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I work in education and have been for the past five years. I started out as a preschool teacher and then moved into a long-term substitute position at a high school. I am now currently working as an Office Professional in the Ritenour School District. I am most proud of putting myself through college and actually graduating. I was the first in my family to earn a college degree. I believe something that sets me apart from others is my free spirit. I put my all into everything that I do and want others around me to excel.

Any big plans?
I am looking forward to Stomp the World growing more. I mean, we have awesome volunteers. I am planning for success. Keeping my fingers crossed that this organization comes across someone who believes in what we are doing and wants to invest in our great opportunities.
