Today we’d like to introduce you to Makicha Greenwood. 

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have been in fashion all my life. I have always loved playing dress-up or helping friends and relatives with the perfect outfit. I got this a lot from my mom who was a St Louis native and loved to wear nice clothing and shoes. Grew up in East St Louis, Il a city of trends and fashion. Even throughout high school you never know you have the passion and the love for clothes until winning best-dressed senior. My mom will always buy me nice clothes. I will never forget the time of one of my favorite artists Mary J Blige. I wanted this pants suit she wore on the cover of 411 I believe, and my mom found it. So, as you could see my fashion for clothes goes back, and starting a clothing line has always been my passion. I specialize in quality clothing, so my vision is to make clothes of excellent quality. I wanted the best fabrics! Our apparel includes men, women, and youth. Our designs are handcrafted with the best quality, wiring, elastic, and fabrics. Originally my logo started with my children’s names, but I wanted more of a catchy slogan that fits everyone, so the logo DDD brands mean Dreams Do Develop. The idea comes from never giving up on dreams. My plan is to continue to come up with trends that draw the attention of our men, women, and youth of all sizes and shapes. 

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. I have just recently renewed my vows with my husband so I kind of put a hold on keeping up and I just became a freight broker trying to start another business. I think my biggest struggle is trying to gain the followers to believe in your line. I have had support from my hometown and a few other cities but the followers are hard to gain traction. Right now, I am reconstructing a new website, I am working with a marketing director, and trying to stay on top of vendors and their turnaround process. I think that is one of my biggest obstacles on the road I am traveling. I also try to make my clothing within reasonable cost because as I mention I buy quality fabrics and I think people don’t understand all that is behind it. I started off with fashionable sweatsuits because people tend to wear them in the colder months and we did well. They loved the quality! 

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have been in accounting for over 20 years. I have my MBA in Master of Business Administration and my Bachelor’s in Business Management. After the pandemic hit and getting laid off, I decided to take a leap of faith and become an entrepreneur. I had money saved so I went for it. My plan is to still go back to work full time while running my two businesses. It will be hard, but my kids are old enough, so I have more time to focus. I plan to start my CPA license in the fall that I have been pushing off for the last 3 years and to continue to grow my businesses. I am most proud of believing in myself and not being afraid to take risks. What sets me apart from others because I am not afraid. I will do the unknown if I honestly believe in it and would not care what others think. I love me for that. What sets me apart from others is that I have always been a leader. I have a can-do attitude. My biggest dream is to build generational wealth. 

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I see it growing with the changes in the clothing industry. Fashion never goes out of style but I do plan on expanding on new ideas.
