Life & Work with Paige Bequette

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paige Bequette, owner and photographer of Rebrand Rogue.

Hi Paige, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Rebrand Rogue started as a passion project and somewhat out of the necessity to create content for close friends in the St. Louis area who are DJs/performers/artists to promote their upcoming events. As a DJ myself, I was constantly trying to find ways to get photos for flyers and for my own social media promotion that was higher quality than just iPhone snaps. In this day and age, eye-catching photography and video are so important for building a consistent social media following or even running digital ads to reach more people.

I ended up upgrading to a new camera and began offering photoshoots to friends in the area who also needed high-quality content, and really fell in love with capturing moments and making others feel confident and happy. Fast forwarding to today, I currently work with all kinds of clients from aspiring models to large-scale event spaces, and I am so thankful and humbled for all those who have helped me during this journey. A picture is worth a thousand words, but helping others feel important, beautiful, and seen as human being is worth so much more. When you work with Rebrand Rogue, you not only get high-quality photos but a positive and memorable experience.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I’m definitely more creative-brained, so anything “techy” can be really frustrating to me. The learning curve between the camera functions and editing software was a little bumpy, but it was so important to maximize the end result quality. Photography can also be really frustrating to one’s wallet, but you can’t take your money with you so you should spoil yourself! Aside from the learning curve and investment pains, finding my editing style and voice has also been a challenge (one that can’t be fixed with money).

Photographers all around the world are constantly assessing their style, and more than likely you will always be changing what you think “looks good”. But don’t worry, you’ll definitely hear from your clients what they think looks good so brace yourself. At the end of the day, all art is subjective so it’s important to stay true to yourself.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Rebrand Rogue specializes in professional photography sessions. Career-wise, I DJ consistently in St. Louis at large-scale venues and clubs. I also specialize in graphic design and digital marketing services with a local marketing agency. Having graphic design and marketing knowledge really gives me an edge since most of my clients are heavily social media based or are using the photos for print or advertising purposes.

If you don’t know how to properly export the correct quality of photos, or how to leave enough space when actually taking the photos. the crop that social media requires, you could potentially run into issues where the photos are unusable or blurry. Aside from that, I really believe a photo session should make you feel confident and excited to share your images. Feeling comfortable and safe is my number one priority when shooting together.

What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson, probably, so far in this photography journey is that it’s ok to have failures or sessions that you just aren’t in love with. Growing pains don’t have to be bad! When you really care about something and are passionate, it’s natural to feel disappointed when things don’t work out.

But those who can grind through the tough moments and not give up on themselves or their art will come out stronger and will feel success in itself from the journey and obstacles overcome. Failure is a natural part of life, don’t be so hard on yourself! You will be thankful for your perseverance, but be easy on yourself in the meantime.
